Synthetic or Dino?

I know this must have been asked, but my 2002 SE currently has 100,000Kms on it. The previous owner was religious about changing oil etc, but I'm not sure if he used dino or synthetic oil. I'd like to switch to synthetic. (mobil 1 5w30) but was wondering if I should be aware of anything before switching. Am I running a big risk of springing new leaks or anything? Anything I should do before switching?

You shouldn't have a problem switching now. I've done it on the past 4 cars I've had (SAAB, Ford, Mitsubishi, 94 Max). You say the previous owner changed the oil regularly so that will help because there should be no issue with seals being clogged with old oil. Make sure to check underneath the car and look for oil sludge buildup. A good mechanic can tell you what seals are leaking. Good luck.
