Replaced clutch, but...(GL-4/GL-5 question)
Long story short -- I went to a Nissan dealership to get the 5th gen. clutch assembly, which feels great by the way, but I wasn't able to drop off the parts personally. I was going to request GL-4 gear lube, but as I said, didn't give my mechanic the parts directly, my Dad did. I READ THE STICKY, and I know that using GL-5 is harmful to the transmission (internals?), but I don't remember reading anything about the clutch. IF GL-5 was used, what will be the specific dangers, and can I leave it on the clutch? When I inspected the clutch, it didn't feel like there was anything "soft" that mighten be eaten away like the stickies said for the tranny synchros, but I need to put my mind to rest. I'm calling my mechanic tomorrow, and hopefully he'd say he used GL-4.

On a side note, I feel that my guy is knowledgable about most stuff -- do you think he would have known to use GL-4? Also, how many other cars, besides Maxima's need GL-4 gear lube?

Thanks for the reply -- JSutter recommended GL-4 when installing the clutch, I guess he drained the tranny in order to install. Upon talking to my mechanic, he didn't have to drain the tranny after all.
