So I did an oil report ----- UPDATE

So no more POS K&N filters for me. Time to switch to amsoil.

Mobil1 10w-30
138xxx miles
Nissan JAPAN Filter
~8000 miles on the oil

I am now using Castrol 0w-30 with the nissan japan filter and I will send that in roughly 6000-7000 miles from now. 5000 seems a bit early for synthetic.

Any comments?

Part 2:

GC 0w-30
Nissan Japan Filter
5k miles

Looks better so I am think the next one should be perfect.

Is the Castol GC? If yes to GC then your engine is going to be in better shape!

I want to know more about this report. How was it done? Cost? What are the benefits of doing this?

Oil reports is done to expose any issues with the engine/transmission. I get my oil reports done at AAA for $22. It is very simple, take it to the AAA car center towards the end of the OCI and they will use a pipette to draw a small sample that they send to their labs for analysis. You will recieve the report from the lab directly by mail.

I do every 30K miles, more so often after hitting 100K. Too many things seem to fall apart after 100K.

I used blackstone labs for mine, they send you a "kit" and you mail it back to them. 22.xx

So I decided I am going to do a few oil changes of Castrol GTX or some other oil before going back to full synthetic. I want to get a few oil changes in and a few lab reports to make sure everything is good before going back to longer oil change intervals.

In addition to installing the new Amsoil EaAU air filter, I am going to remove my breather filter on the front valve cover and run a hose to the midpipe.

I keep hearing this about the nissan filters. How do you get the Japan filters? Ebay? Dealer?
And how can you tell the difference between the u.s nissan filters <blue> or the jdm?

The japan filters are better quality and say Made In Japan on them. The china filters are not so good. I only have a few left. After im out, I am switching to Wix or Amsoil filters.

I usually source (case of 12) Wix/NapaGold from www.fleetfilter.com for all my vehicles.

Good job, looks like Castrol bought the numbers significantly lower. More than the oil it is the OCI that matters, these numbers with jump really fast higher if it was sampled like 6K instead of 5K.

5K OCI with quality dino fluid like Castrol/Chevron and 7.5K OCI for quality syn like M1/PP is a good benchmark. Occasional UOAs just confirm one is within the limits of wear #s.

A bit thicker oils like 10W30 seem to keep the numbers elevated but not something to worry about.

I second that....

So...blackstone can tell me the same for my tranny's as my engine oil? I have sent in eng oil, but not tranny fluid....didn't realize/know that...!!

Blackstone is a great place to help find out the current condition of your car's internals. I do each of my vehicles once a year to check for red flags. Doing a UOA was one of the first things I did when I bought my 02 Maxima GLE and as soon as I obtain my thread starting ability I will post my UOA from said car.

First post!

Glad to be on board,
