Ticking Lifter Noise - The Easy Fix!! All Generation
Go to Advance Auto and purchase the
"LUCAS HEAVY DUTY OIL STABILIZER" - about $12
Pour into engine. Run car for about 5 minutes, or go drive somewhere. The lifters- ticking noise is gone!!
The rings and seals "Lifters" are worn. I burn 1 quart of oil every 1200 miles, then goes that hideous ticking. After using this Lucas product the engine ticks are gone.
Add Lucas to oil after every oil change.....
**disclaimer** am not getting paid for advertising for Lucas. My uncle works on engines and trannys, and referred me to this product.

This oil additive is not really fixing anything, just masking the problem.
If the ticking noise you're hearing is from the valve train, the problem is excessive wear either on the camshaft lobes, lifter surface or both. Excessive wear creates a wider gap between the cam and lifter, it will result in the valves not opening fully or for the designed duration and you get more of the "ticking noise" you describe. A valve adjustment will probably help with this issue...

The VQ series does not have hydraulic lifters, so no amount or type of snake oil will actually fix valve train noise.
With hydraulic lifter its actually possible to clean varnish out of a sticky lifter, or slow down a lifter that's bleeding down too fast, with different snake oils.

at least am not dumping 1 quart every 1200 miles..... am into my 2nd oil change and no ticking..... do the math (I suppose)
