ok I would like to get one for my car, but dont want the code learning thing , because I heard on the news that pl can code match and steal your car. I only want the car starter feature and nothing else though. Any suggestions on what kinda car starter to get at a reasonable price. I ve checked on ebay and they are either remote starter with keyless entry or trunk release. not just the car starter. Any suggestions thanks for your feed back in advance.

I had a Code Alarm,

alarm and remote starter system on my Explorer,it cost $499 with all the goodies and install,The thing you heard about code dubing is only applicable on old systems or systems that do not a have random codes {I think},My code Alarm had 17.8 Million different codes that changed each time to protect against code dubing.Thats all I know but I think it is safe.Good Luck

you can't drive the car when you start it with a remote starter

once you press the brakes it the car turns off. you figure they have to press thee brakes to put it in gear, and it would look really wierd if the start the car after every light.

get an alarm to, that way you'll know if they open the door after you start it. its not like they could take the car anyway but still get it.

I have a CODE ALARM that I am having installed >>>>>

really soon. It has the code hopping feature, also the way it works is that when you remote start the car, the car starts up normally, you unlock the car with the remote, put the key in the ignition and turn the switch to the start position doing this while the car is already running. Then you put your foot on the brakes to put it into gear. The safety is that if while the car is on remote start and if someone tries to steal your car by opening the hood, door, etc. without the remote the car automatically shuts off. If the door is open and the car is started and they try to step on the brakes without first putting in the key to switch it to the start position, the car dies too. If you do not remote start the car then you can enter the car normally, etc.

Have one on my 90 Camry. The car only shuts off, when you step on the brake if the installed (which was me) wires the approrpriate wire to the brake light wire. Then it will cut the ignition power, thus turning your car off, UNLESS you have the key in the "ON" position, which then the key would be providing the ignition with power. But even if they do start your car, the steering lock mechanism is in place, and most remotes will only run the car up to 15 minutes, which isnt long at all to get the car somewhere. But once you go to step on the brake to shift the car outta gear, it will turn off the vehicle- provided of course you wired the brake light switch. You can get just a car starter at Pep Boys.
