Exhaust difference 5-speed vs. auto??
Exhaust difference 5-speed vs. auto??
Is there any difference in the tone of a Maxima 5-speed w/ exhaust and an auto with same set-up, because when i rev my car it gets loud then quiets out. and other peoples (non-maxima) will rev and it stays loud, or could it be the muffler (no flames it's an arospeed loudpipe)??? just wonderin thanx

I'm not sure I understand your question but the difference in exhaust tone between an auto and 5spd is due to the gearing. With an auto it locks out in the highest gear it can to keep your cruising RPMs low. This keeps your exhaust note deep. Generally with a 5spd you can put it in 5th and get as deep or deeper tone (depending on the RPMs). It's a different story on the highway though. With my auto, I was cruising at around 2300 rpms at 70mph. With my 5spd it's at around 3,000, so my exhaust is louder and ricier.
I also notice that at certain RPMs the exhaust will get really quiet and that's where I try to settle into when I'm cruising. This is what i've noticed:
1000-2000rpms is deep and throaty
2100-2250rpms it gets raspy and higher pitched.
2300-2700rpms it gets very quiet
2800-3100rpms it gets once again raspy and high pitched.
3200-3700rpms it gets quiet again
I usually try to find the sweet (quiet) spots in my gearing and cruise there. Otherwise the noise gets on my nerves. I also hate the ricey notes I get when I downshift into the "raspy RPM zone".

personally i like the sound of an exhaust on a 5spd a lot more than an auto cause 1) ur in control of the gears/sound and 2) under NORMAL driving, an auto w/exhaust makes a high tone in 1st, gets lower in 2nd, lower in 3rd, etc. and each gear has a monotone sound...where a 5spd has different tones in each gear, kind of low at the beginning, then fades out in higher rpms.
