Dynopack 4WD dynos seem to be the most consistent right?
Who's "Stage 3" is that?

If you think a chipped S4 with a few minor bolt-ons won't pull to 140-160 like nothing, obviously you never owned one.
Go to audiworld and search under the S4 forum. You will be amazed at how fast they pull at that kind of speed. This is why they are highway monsters. You may also want to check out the Gumball videos.![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
A properly launched S4 with at least a Stage 2 should be able to muster 1.8 60fts.

Hmm...well after all the discussion, maybe I really did only pull on an automagic. ![got me](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/ne_nau.gif)
All I know is this. A stock WRX 5spd will pull about 165-168 whp on a Dynapack AWD dyno and they weigh 3085 lb. They also trap in the low-90's but with a much better ET (AWD launch) than me. Now compare that to my 160 whp stock 5spd Maxima and slightly less weight and you have a very good rolling race. I've run two stock/nearly stock WRX 5spds on the street. One I was dead even with from 30-80. The other I pulled a few cars on and BEAT him from 20-80, but only because the idiot couldn't shift worth a crap and completely blew past his 2-3 upshift point and bogged it up top. Mark that one down as sh!tty driver![laugh](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/laugh.gif)
But from this experience, I think a Dynapack dyno is pretty representative of the actual power that gets to the wheels. That said, if a stock S4 6spd dynos on a Dynapack at 188-190 whp, then that matches my stock power to weight ratio and I *COULD* have pulled on a 6spd. But who knows...
Like I said, maybe they really are much faster stock but the guy just couldn't shift. With peak power at 6000rpm on the S4, if you take that puppy all the way up to redline (7000) before shifting, you're simply not going to get the best performance. Same with a VQ30DE (more redline than lung capacity), only I know when to shift. Maybe this guy didn't.![got me](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/ne_nau.gif)
But if S4 6spds really do pull high-90 traps stock, then there are one of two possibilities. They are very underrated on their stock power (from seeing the dynos, I sorta doubt this). The other possibility is that they have hella GOOD and tight gearing. From looking at the ratios, I think this is much more likely. A high-90 trap from a 250HP 3600lb AWD car is an incredible feat.
PS...the new 04 S4 is going to have a 4.2L NA V8, not a bi-turbo anymore.

I'm not doubting your story at all, in fact good kill.

LOL, I *do* understand the limits of the FWD platform
But with my whole 160 whp and 3000 lb curb weight, I'm not even close to hitting that limit yet. No doubt I would prefer RWD to FWD, or even AWD if I had a real monster, but I don't.
I understand the benefits of AWD whenever it's rainy out, or I want to launch really hard off the line (when rainy
).
But like I said, rolling races, all AWD does is suck power and add weight.

Right.
It does suck power and add weight. Still when you are running high HP applications it is either go with AWD and lose VERY LITTLE power and add some weight or just spin your tires through 3 out of 5 gears.
Drive a turbo maxima and see how much fun it is, I hear Sprintmax has one?

Steve, either way I still say good job!
I just don't appreciate people claiming things about cars when they have never owned it or even raced it. I like to look at things at both ways and since I have owned both cars, I can.
Though I only owned my S4 for a short time, I savored every minute of it.
Ant-Lunch?

Oh yea, though this thread is about AWD from a roll, I do agree my WRX (or most AWD vehicles) isn't what I would call spectacular from a roll. When you take the launch away from a AWD (the biggest advantage), that is like stealing someones coat from them in the winter while its snowing and letting them freeze.
This is why more HP is required.

Well that's one way of putting it. But I would not even pretend to think I could take a WRX/S4 from a stop, either.

But I agree that if you're planning on taking your car to INSANE power levels, RWD or AWD are *much* better platforms to work with than FWD.
