Belt problem with UDP

When I start my car when it's cold it sounds like the belts squeal for a second. It doesn't do it while I'm driving at all. When I start it when it's warm there is no squeal. I'm thinking maybe because of the new belt. Anybody have any ideas?

Check the tension on the belts. Did you use cheep belts. I have the gates belts with my udp and they suck. Any car that I have had them on make noise. Change to Bando.

You have one or more belts too loose. Recheck your belt tension. The brand of belt is not causing this problem!

i used gates belts as well on my UDP. They need to be retightened BADLY now. At first it started it sounded like a hundred birds underneath the hood as you could just hear it begin to slip little by little without going into the full screetch mode. But as soon as it got cold around here...ear piercing! Gates are good belts, just need to perfect that tension a bit.

If they are loose then why don't they squeal when I drive and sit at a light.

like drag slicks, they warm up and grip better.

Right because when they are cold they are hard. If they are hard the cant grip and will slip. Once they warm up they grab a bit better because the compound of the rubber is bends and grabs easier.

Gates are average belts. Betls are not belts, different manufacturers use different materials. Do you have to tighten your OE Nissan belts every year...nope. My Gates (I have a UDP also)squeel at startup when they are cold. I am tired to having to tighten them so bye bye Gates.

What would be the best belts for the UDP?

Why would they recommend Gates then?

My mechanic adj them for me when the need it which at least once a year. He keeps telling me that I don't need to adj the betls in your Z all the time...just change the belts. I will be changing them to Bando. BTW they make the OE Nissan belts.

I have Gates and they have been fine after the initial loosening which is standard in all types of accessory belt. Brand new belts stretch after initial installation. Adjusting them is easy. Gates belts are fine.
