I had my mechanic tighten my belt to stop the cold weather squealing. I just drove like 100 miles (just cruised, no hard driving). When I got home the SC seemed to be making a bit of a scratching noise (I can't explain it).

I did a search and couldn't really find anyone who said they had a sound like this. I was wondering if the belt being too tight could cause that noise, or whether my bearing on the SC finally went to crap. The sound wasn't that loud I could only hear it with the hood open.

What do you think? Also, what size socket do I need to loosen the belt?

I've always had the problem since new. It went away when I got the belts adjusted under warranty, but came back. Then eventually I had the belts replaced and it went away, only to come back. Now I figure it'll go away again when I get the alternator replaced under warranty. It's an annoyance, much like the sound the fan on my power supply of my Dell just started making this morning!! Warranty time....

 

Well I checked the deflection and it's probably like 85 degrees (almost 90). Also I didn't hear it when I started it up but cold it idles a little higher. I chekced the inside of the SC (removed filter) and visually everything looked like new.

The SC is pretty loud as it's a v1, maybe I was hearing things in my head yesterday, I'll have to check it again after it gets warmed up and taken for a drive.

PS - also checked oil line, so I know that's no a problem.

This V1 has some miles on it but hasn't had any problems I really don't want to have to send it in, but if I do $400 isn't too bad, it's just the hassle of getting it off and not having a car for a long time.

happened to me when i had my altenator replaced .. idiots.

btw, is 14mm the size of the actual nut on the tensioner, or the adjustment 'nut' ? gotta adjust mine too.

 

I know that the V1 sounds way louder than the V2 but have you heard what mine sounded like when it was going bad?

my lord then my sc is certainly not bad, actually I haven't heard it, and it sounds fine still. I think I was just tripping out. Damn that sounded awful.
