HORNET 2WAY ALARM INSTALLED!!!!!!!

I just got my Hornet 2 way alarm installed at Don aka Pearl96Max's house today and I have to say I am very impressed! This thing is GREAT!. From what I know this alarm is very similar to the Viper 790 Responder alarm. This thing has ALOT of great features. Besides all the normal things you'd expect from an alarm this can also show the temperature inside the car and be set to automatically start the car if it drops below a certain temperature! I can also set the alarm to start 24 hours after I hit a button. This alarm also has GREAT range. The pager itself is smaller than the Viper pager and the alarm is cheaper too. The install was very neat and thorough as usual and everyone that knows Don knows all his work is. If you are considering a 2 way alarm this is DEFINITELY an alarm to concider, especially if you can't afford the Viper 790. I think Don's gonna be offering this alarm for $50-100 less than the Viper 790 as part of a group deal. This alarm in my opinion is a GREAT alarm especially for the price. Thanks again Don!

Btw, I'm 5-speed and I do have remote start also. It was very easy to setup once Don had installed the alarm for me. Don told me what I needed to do and when I got home I did the additional step to allow the remote start to work and it worked great. Anyone can do it. It only takes about two minutes to do.

That's great news. Quick question...you only get one remote, right? Any idea how much an additional remote costs?

Thanks.

I'm glad you asked that. I forgot to mention this alarm comes with 2 remotes. You get one pager and one regular remote.

Also the pager shows the time, the temperature inside the car and has an alarm clock.

****ED~!!!!!!

i dont know if u mentioned this but one of the best and rare features i saw on this alarm that i have never saw before is that it has a dam count down to when u did remote start. for example if u set it to 20 minutes for remote start, it will show 20 minutes and count down so u know when your car will cut off...not that important but very different....

why am i ****ed u may ask? i paid 500 for my alarm (Responder 790)which i'm still happy about but insanely confused how this alarm can not only be cheaper but have so many more features.

it does everything my alarm does PLUS so much more, and its cheaper. It has a lifetime warranty like mine, remote start, same sensors, freaking tells temperature, u can set a scedule for remote start to come on, antenna installed on the car takes up less space, i see no advantage of the 790 on this one except the name....

for the features, i have to agree with chris, it doesnt get better than this....dam...and chris MIGHT be faster than me now dam conversion!!!!!

I hear theres a way to set the remote start so that if the car is in gear, it wont start...like a safety! Is this true?

Don, I was reading the manual for the alarm today and I found out that the pager can vibrate! I just set it up and it works great. This was the only thing I could think of that the Viper 790 pager had that I don't. Now I feel my alarm is perfect.

The main difference of the two is that the Viper works off of responder technology (FM) whereas the Hornet is XHF (AM). The difference...The viper has longer range and may respond faster. That is all. This is from my 2003 DEI dealer supplement recieved today.

The "telephone stuff" is whats referred to as Carcom, last I heard it has been discontinued. But it can be used with all ESP DEI alarms, yes the Hornet is ESP.

I recently got the Viper 790xv but I have'nt installed it yet. I am concerned about getting that starter kill switch in in the car is left in gear and I'm wondering if it will work at all for 5th Gens... Anyone have info on this?

PM Polo.. he has the instructions for a 5th Gen..

what you might have to do is put a spare key in the steering column to make it work.. but check with polo.. he is doing it on his 2k2

Deac
Deac, yes remote start will work in the 5th gens. As a matter of fact I have done at least 20 of them in the last month or so. What is required is a immobilizor bypass module (DEI p/n 555U) and your "valet" key. The valet key goes into the module and wired up to your remote start and ignition. This basically tricks the car to believe the key is in.
