Think about it,

-Several years ago 16"-17" wheels where big deals, now they are the norm and everyone moving onto 18"-19"+ wheels.
-Several years ago, people were like "Carbon fiber who" "Carbon fiber what" now carbon fiber more readily available to the public, not just the Honda/Acura guys. Hell, now they even have carbon fiber brake rotors.
-Several years ago, if you say you were going to boost your NA motor that has 10:1 comp you were called a fool and that your engine would melt.
-Several years ago a "Custom turbo" was only for the elites due to the high dollar cost, now they are readily available for most without the high dollar factor
-Several years ago people were affraid of a turbo due to their lack of knowledge about them, the unknown factor. Now we know more about turbo (reading and understanding maps, etc)
-Several years ago how much did a T3 or T4 turbo cost, how much do
they cost now
-Several years ago how many fuel, boost controller was available, look how many they are now at a lower cost.

You see where I'm going with this. In our Sport Compact market the average Joe is reading and learning more about this sport. There's alot more info available today then it was several years ago. Along with info comes knowledge of knowing what can be done safely. Creating a custom turbo for a FWD V6 motor isn't rocket science, even the turbo feed portion. Any competent welder/exh fabricator can come up with something.

Maybe this could be part of the reason why it has taken several years for someone to create a turbo kit for our Maxima's. Before someone reminds me, I already know this is not the first turbo Max so don't bother.

What's sad is if someone created a turbo kit for their Max and it looks similar to one of the kits out there will they be given credit for developing their own kit or be talked about because it looks similar to someone elses kit.

To be honest I too have vision of boost dacing in my head. I know exactly how I'm going to route everything, which turbo to use (due to learning how to read and understand comp maps) I currently have two reman turbo's that useless for my application (can we say A/R sive of over 1.00 just too damn big) but it's all about the resale with these turbo.

No you wouldn't. Take it from the people that have practical experience with the unit. Talk to the people that have come across many issues already and found ways around them. The reality is that you are better off getting answers and info from people in this community who have the experience and knowledge firsthand, regardless of what modification you're talking about.

son of a

*****, i just wrote a big long post, and attached an image that was too large, so i lost it.

here are the cliff notes of it:

IC piping changed to: allow better MAF placement, post IC air avoids less hot things

Problems w/ kit as i see it:
lowered ground clearance
4 ga battery wire
oil and turbo cooling lines touch ic pipes = heat = bad
DP near radiator fans... will they melt???
pipes may clang... (new engine mounts may help but increase vibration)

things I like:
water cooled turbo
aluminum frankencar midpipe (very nice constuction)
open atmosphere WG
that my car is turboed
and that i did it myself

Powder coating problems solved. After initial bad feelings:
Brought painter pipes AGAIN on friday night, he delivered them to my house, in excellent shape, the following day (45 minutes out of his way, both directions... very happy) => http://www.plasticsystems.com/

here are new pics:

painted stuff 1

and

painted stuff 2

Do you really need to know about the specifics of the oil tap or the exact routing and bending of intake and exhaust piping just for the Maxima if your interest is in expanding your knowledge base? Come on now. My response was specific to the idea that you'd rather deal with installation/configuration issues through members of this board. Maybe the backing of the product is a factor in who you decide to go with and if you asked any of the turboed guys I'm sure they'd give you their take on support for the various setups. Or go it alone with a local shop that you already trust and do it there.

If you really want to just expand your knowledge base go here:
How Turbochargers Work
or
Differences Between Superchargers and Turbochargers
or
Greddy Turbo Kits (lots of piping pics)
Piping pics for a different car so the bends are different but you see the system.

I have run kits both ways, reverse-y typically (unless other way is requested/needed, but no one requests/needs haha), but have run the U-turned y also - did not like that setup, longer pipes cause longer spool etc, esp when not heat wrapped to keep temp up.. i would gladly run the even shorter reverse-y such as sx7r which theoretically should spool even faster at any customers request, but most like to see a turbo chillin there when they open the hood up top also keep in mind other fun stuff when you have a turbo low-low like that, even to the point of having to run oil pumps

PFI runs a ypipe that gets u-turned and then routed back forwards. looks oddly similar to on-alerts y pic

and gtr_rider, you're welcome to come take those pics , but you are goin to have to lift my engine to get them like the honda

and whoever asked, i dont know if you asked me or someone else i got lost in this thread lol, but if you asked why i changed intake pipe routes, I have setups running the ic'd air across the engine(mine) and i have kits that run the ic'd air just straight up on the driver side to the tb. this is basically customer's preference. may seem smarter to have the ic'd air run shorter distance just out and up instead of across hot engine bay.. either way

and sorry everyone for bumping the thread

Are you going to take the car to NYIRP? Have you posted on UBRF about it? I saw your reference to it....
