ignition key cylender problems

lately its getting hard to pull the key out of the ignition as if it were stuck. Its not the steering wheel lock or anything, it just feels like its snagging on something in there so I have somewhat force it to turn to get the key out. anyone here have that problem? been having this for the past few months now.

I know exactly what your problem is. I had the same problem too. Mine just started all of a sudden with no warning. At first I thought it was the ignition cylinder as well until I took it to an auto electrician to look at. He unscrewed the plastic cover on the steering wheel and noticed that there was a long cable from the brake pedal to the front of the ignition cylinder. I am auto by the way. The side button on the shifter, not the overdrive but the other one, causes the small rod to retract back and forth in this cable. That rod inserts into the hole directly in front of the key. The mechanic told me that the cable was bad. When I put it back in, I could take out the key easily liker butter for ten tries before the problem occurred again. So he recommended that I leave it disconneted, since it served no real purpose. All you have to do is unsrew the cable from the ignition cylider. It was only one screw. The mechanic said that the the cable just serves as security device so that thieves can't put the car in gear after they break into it or something like that. I left mine disconnected. No more embarrassing problems with struggling to get the key out. I literally had to play if off every time it happened. No other problems either. It's really easy to do and takes about 15 minutes.
I recommeded doing thiss becuase I let the problem persist for four months and it problem got worse. Moreover, my struggling with the key caused me to damage the ignition switch. So that car wouldn't crank at times since there was so much wear on the switch from me forcefuly jiggling it to get the key loose. I had to replace the ignition switch as a result. Hope this helps.

I would like to say thanks! just now fixed it and found out that it was because my aftermarket auto shifter somehow shifted lower causing it to push the rod a little. While I was at it, I took off the green condom thing on the bulb so now its all white

I have to thank you as well.

I was about to buy a used one from a salvage yard for $50. Took that rod off and it works great now. Thanks.
