I'm not buying that the moonroof weighs 65lbs. Safety glass is heavy, but it's not that heavy. The front windshield doesn't even come close to weighs 65lbs. The moonroof has a thin metal frame, tiny motor, and the glass roof. You'd be lucky if the whole unit weighed 25lbs. I lift 50-65lb coolers a lot and I can tell you that much weight isn't sitting in that little moonroof.
Also, those brake dust shields and underbody heat shields don't weigh remotely close to 12lbs and 25lbs, respectively. The dust shields might weigh .5 lbs each and the underbody heat shields might weigh 8-10lbs. I should know, I've taken them on and off a few times and they're not heavy. Both of these "plates" as you refer to them and mearly thin gauge metal.
As for batteries, consider getting a "Dynabatt". They weigh in at 12lbs or approximately 30lbs lighter than the stocker.

Well Dave, those two numbers are from other org members who have weighed them. Also the sunroof does weigh a lot. That was the difference between the weight of a car with one compared to the weight without. It is not just simple brackets and a motor that hold it on either. Personally i wish it did weigh less so my car would be closer to 3095 with everything in it but i doubt it is only 25lbs.

As for people weighing these parts, if this person is Papasmurf, I don't buy it. Those underbody heatshields weigh hardly anything (not close to 25lbs) and the same goes for the brake dust shields.

Well i would really like to know how much the "sun roof" really does weigh because i didnt list the weight savings because i really dont know. 65lbs was to be conservative and not to give too low of a weight for my car just in case it does really weigh around that because that was the weight rumor going around. Dave, maybe take yours out, weigh it, and then let us all really know. I will then add that to the list and attribute the finding to you. As for heat shielding, there is a lot of it. Def. if you count the cover for the cat. I mean think about it there is heat shielding from the ypipe all the way to covering the muffler.

Dave is right, many of those weights look about right, but the brake dust shields do not total 12lbs, I have removed one to see and it was like 0.5 lbs. The heat shields for the exhaust do not weigh 22 lbs either, as I have removed a few and they are very light. I like the list though, gives some good ideas.
A dynabatt is rediculously expensive for the name, get a hawker which is the exact same battery for like $79 I believe.

As far as the sunroof thing goes the additional weight is not just from the sunroof itself. Extra bracing is required throughout the roof of the car because the optimal place for that bracing to reside is taken up by the sunroof, and also the track and motor mechanism.
I think if you are serious about that website you should list the differences in the different model years and trim levels. My 96 GXE wasn't even CLOSE to the 3095 you have listed on your website. With 1/4 tank and in stock form it was weighed at 2940 (without me).

Okay, here are some honest to God "dry" weights for the 1996 Maximas taken from Nissan:
GLE 2982lb (extra weight items include the moonroof, climate control, automatic, dual power seats, BOSE, heavier wheels)
GXE 2886lb (bare bones 5 speed)
SE 2895lb (bare bones 5 speed)
As we can see, the GLE is the heavy weight by ~90lbs. The moonroof, automatic, and dual power seats are the big weight items. The auto (without fluids) is about 25lbs heavier then the manual, the power seats add about 15lbs more (total of ~30lbs), the BOSE and climate control system add ~7-8lbs, the "tank" GLE rims add 3lb each or ~12lbs total, and then there's the moonroof which looks like it may weigh anywhere from 30-35lbs.
Now keep in mind that these are "dry" weights which means no fluids at all. A full tank of gas is about 126lbs, oil is about 7lbs, tranny fluid for the auto/manual is around 5-10lbs, coolant is around 15lbs (maybe more), and windshield fluid is around 10lbs. Add all this up and a barebones GXE 5 speed will weigh in around 3050lbs.
Run a 1/4 tank of gas (-100lbs) and remove the jack and spare (-32lbs) and you're looking at around 2920lbs. Compare this number to what Neal said his GXE weighed with a 1/4 tank of gas ...just about *****-on-accurate.
My 96 SE 5 speed (moonroof, BOSE, powerseat) with 20lbs of subframe connectors, 30lbs of tools and work related items, 1/2 tank of gas (70lbs), spare/jack, and y-pipe (-12lbs) weighed in at 3055lbs. I'd esimate my race weight without me is ~2950lbs (1/4 tank of gas, no spare/jack, no tools).
I must say it bugs me that a lot of people somehow believe they're particular model of Maxima (SE/GLE/GXE) is signifcantly lighter than other Maximas of the same model. The truth is all these options DO NOT add a ton of weight. At most you're looking at 90lbs between a fully optioned auto GLE vs a barebones 5 speed GXE. When you're talking about speed, 90lbs isn't going to slow you down a whole lot (maybe .1 or .2 seconds).

I have the 97 and 98 Nissan Maxima brochures. The number for both years are interestingly the same. I figured the digital odo in the 98 would have added 40 lbs
Here's the info:
Curb Weights
GXE 5-speed: 3,012 lbs
GXE auto: 3,069 lbs
SE 5-speed: 3,014 lbs
SE auto: 3,072 lbs
GLE: 3,085 lbs

Yeah i know right. Like that car that car and driver did to make a real slow car run like 13s. I actually would like to make all of the above CF. Thats a little down the road though cause i am only spending money on the turbo kit now.

At best you might be able to get the car down to 2500lbs without having to start cutting up the chassic. I say just dump the entire drivetrain into a RWD 1st gen maxima. At least then you can go lighter and drifting at the sametime .
