Anyone converted from a 9004 to a 9007?

The 9004 bulb is one of the worst designs ever. The fillaments are oriented wrong and put out a poor light pattern. I know the harness has to be rewired and the socket has to be modified. I've read about people making a 9007 fit a 9004 socket so it can be done. Have any of you fellow Maxima oners done this. Just wanted to know the improvements, if there are any.

I've performed the work needed to fit the 9007 in...it's really nothing. You just have to shave the two bottom nubs in the hole of the housing. I believe the wiring has to be altered as well, but the connector is the same. The beam pattern is not really improved much, which is why I didn't further pursue the project.

the headlight housings are made for 9004's, if you modify the housing to use a superior bulb, it will still have a crappy beam pattern because of the limiting factor, the housings

I'm not sure I agree. The poor quality of the beam pattern of our HB1 lamps is mainly due to the fact that the 9004 bulb uses tranverse filaments. The H4 bulb is superior because it's filaments are axial and the low beam filament is shielded.

The fact that the 9004 and 9007 bulbs have plastic bases doesn't make them bad bulbs...in fact the new H11s have plastic bases as well.
