I have SC whine, but no SC.....Help!

Well, yesterday morning I was driving around, and I stopped at a stoplight. I heard a whining sound coming from my engine, but it was only there when I was idling. If I gave it a little gas, it went away. Last night I heard the noise again, so I don't think it's going away. The car is driving normally apart from that. Any ideas guys? I'm guessing it has something to do with a belt or something.....

could be a belt or a vaccum leak...you need to pin point the source

my alternator did the same thing before it went out....mine did not catch on fire, but I had it checked out and the diodes had gone bad.

I had my alternator replaced a few months ago, so I don't think it's that. I like how I didn't get ONE notification about this thread....I had to find it and see. How should I pinpoint the problem?

you can spray the belts with a lubricant while the car is running....if the whining goes away then its your belts....I used some kind of silicone spray when I checked mine.

Its your alternator, Run it by Autozone and have them test it or do it with Multimeter. I will bet that is what it is..... Sounds like what happened to me on my old 95......

I had the SAME EXACT PROBLEM. I crawled underneath and figured out that the deflection was off in the belts(one more than the other). I adjusted the idler pulley tensioner and viola, problem solved

What about the PS pump being low on fluid? Although it's not under load when you're not turning the wheels...
