Shaving Emblems?

I heard you use a heat gun to loosen your emblems, then string or floss to get them off, then 3M adhesive remover to tidy up. 2 questions: 1) What is, and where do I get a " heat gun " and how much does it cost? 2) Will the heat gun or 3M screw up the paint? Thanks in advance, any info appreciated.

all I used was was dental floss and 34 gauge wire. The emblem is the easiest and the letters are a *****. For the emblem I only used GOO GONE to get rid of the adhesive. For the letters I had to alternate between GOO GONE and simple green and a whole lot of elbow grease. Also please search as tis topic is very popular. Next time I'll call you a ricer and make you cry...

if you don't have a heat gun you can use a hair dryer or park your car in the sun for a few hours heat will soften the adhesive and make it easier to remove then take some fishing line or dental floss and "floss" the emblems off then take some goo gone or wd40 to remove the rest of the adhesive..

All I ever do is use a blow dryer. Then I just pry it off with my hands. If anything is left behind, i just use regular polish to buff it off.

I would stay away from using a heat gun. Like previously mentioned, the wife's hair dryer worked great. To removed the adhesive, I picked up some bug and tar remover from Autozone and just used some elbow grease.

If you use a heat gun, don't keep it in one spot for too long. Heat guns are used to remove paint or something (you'll find the heat gun in the paint department of the store).

I didn't use anything except a fishing line. I got a long fishing line and made 3 "rows" of it and twisted it so it's like a fatter fishing line. Then I put the fishing line behind the embelm and took it off.

The glue is still there, but hopefully it'll be gone with the 3M remover thing. Going to buy it tomorrow

I'm good with my hands too (guitar-player), but I'm not going to start using a grinder to get bug guts off the hood of my car. Just seems a bit extreme. Glad it worked for you. I'd suggest trying some of the alternative methods first IMO.

I used dental floss after heating up the surface with a heat-gun. It came right off. . . no scratches, and just use a cotton towel to get all the extra glue off, then wax the surface.
