As Nissan would say it - Maxima, cars like it: 0

Nissan/Infiniti aside, there are cars that are comparable in HP
Or Engine Size
Or Torque
Or Pricing
Or Interior space

But not all of the above.

HP-wise, most notable is the TL Type-S but it's a 3.2L and with less torque.

Engine-wise, i think there's a Hyundai or Kia with a 3.5L but it only puts out 190hp IIRC.

Torque-wise, none that i know of.

However, on the Infiniti/Nissan side of things - there's at least 4 cars that'll fit the bill on HP, Engine size and Torque.

- G35 Sedan
- New Maxima
- Altima SE
- I35

The I35 being +/-95% similar to the Maxima, only difference is the gauge cluster and the front/rear design.

Or if you'd rather i put it this way, the I35 is the real Maxima. You can't get any closer than that

If you're looking at older cars, the Acura Legend would compare pretty well. Available 5 (and 6) speed tranny, up to 220 hp, and somewhat decent torque (don't remember how much exactly), great build quality. Best years were 90 or 91 up, stopped making them in '94, IIRC

nothing compares, even a legend, but they are fun to drive. if you want something with a similar engine, similar power, similar torque and similar price to a maxima, why don't you want a MAXIMA?

Only the V6.

I would think that the accord v6 would be somewhat comparable, maybe considered the max's little cousin perhaps.

You could also toss in some german cars of the day, the BMW 525/530/535/540 (not really a comparison on the 540 though) and the Merc E class. Those are big bucks though.

Thinkin about it, I guess the Maxima is all by itself in it's own unique world where it has total domination. Cool.

I dunno, I was gonna get a max orginally, found a nice 96 Acura TL 3.2 Premium, puts the max to shame in luxury, very comparable in performance... Its basically the legend, but lighter, and newer. I test drove the max and tha TL, the TL brakes MUCH faster and feels more stable. The TL also accelerates much better too in city driving, plus the headlight housing is one peice with the foglight built in, awesome at night.

The Hondas are very strong at the top-end but don't have nearly as much torque as the Nissan 3.5L VQ. The Nissan will feel much stronger and athletic around town but the Honda can definitely move on the highway. But only when their autotragic lets them.

My TL is basically a legend, but like 300lbs lighter, its very comparable to the max. And about the engine, its very nice on the low end, I spin the tires without even trying with my auto tranny. The high end is actually similar to the VQ, since it doesnt have VTEC, it doesnt lack the low end power most hondas do.
