Different front and rear shocks and other questions...

I currently have Maxspeeds and stock shocks. However, my stock shocks I believe are blown. They squeak and make popping noises when I turn the wheel and they are very floaty feeling. Is this just the shocks and not something more serious that can't be fixed with switching out my shocks and springs?

Now, since I have to change out my shocks I also want a bit more of a drop, so I am going to go with the teins. I want Illuminas but they are too expensive. I have heard of a 4th genner doing Illuminas up front and I think GR2's in the back to keep the rear on the ground. Would this work on the 5th gen and could you forsee any problems with this setup.

Also, any places to get good prices on these?

I think you have that backwards. GR2's in the front and agx's in the front and i believe there is another 4th gen guy with the illuminas in the back and gr2's in the front.

I don't know why you would want to put an adjustable shock back there if you have to remove the whole thing just to get to adjust it. However, I want a stiff shock to keep the rear beam suspension on the ground. Then the Illuminas up front so I can adjust them. Does this make sense?

Appreciate your replies.

IIRC: put the illuminas, agx, or other stiff shock in the back to handle the spring so they don't blow. At least with 4th gens, the rear shocks always blow, rarely the fronts. I would go ahead and save money for a couple months and go for illuminas all around.

CullenJ76, its exactly the opposite of what you said. The best combo would be Illumina struts in the front, because they are not as harsh as AGX, and yet provide good damping, and you mostly feel the impact from the front.

In the back, you are free to do whatever you want, either Illuminas, AGXs, or even GR2s. The GR2s as far as I know are just as durable as AGXs, and should be fine in the back.

The best setup from what others on the board are saying are Illuminas up front and either Illuminas or AGX in the rear. Some also like Konis, but they require modification to fit in the rears. You're better off saving for adjustable shocks over GR-2's and such.
