windshield cracked this morning

is it safe to drive with it cracked a little? cause I was driving with the heat on high on the vents and then I passed by a salt truck and when some salt hit my car I heard the windshield crack and looked down and it was cracked.

theres two thin lines above the vents where the glass is cracked. i dont got a lot of money right now so how long can i drive around like that. i only got liability on my insurance also.

Its ok as long as its not more than a dollar bill long, but i would have it repaired or you can buy this glass filler stuff.

Just make sure you do it soon becuase a cop can pull you over and give you a fix-it ticket.

Get it fixed asap or water/dirt can get in. If the crack is not long, the glass shop can fix it ($30 or so).

the crack goes across both vents and you can see where the salt hit the windshield cause theres a round little crack in the center of the crack

that should be the first on your list to do. I had a crack on my 300zx front window that lasted for about 3 months. Ever morning i would wake up to a larger crack. It sux. It had a mind of it's own, it kept on growing and growing till i got it replaced for about $130 at a independentally owned window replair place.

If you have car insurance, check the policy, they may replace the window for no excess

not if you only have liability here in the states.

Don't worry about it. The windshields are glass/plastic/glass. Only the outside glass was cracked, and even then, its still a weather tight seal. You'll be fine to drive with it. Don't be alarmed if it spreads either, they have a tendancy to do so during the winter.
They do make kits out there (some ding repair kits have it) where you can almost drill a small hole, technically if you did this at the end of each crack, then prepped and filled the holes then the crack won't spread anymore. Trying to glue over/along the crack doesn't really work (I've seen people try it), and as with any ding repairs and such, surface prep will make or break a sucessful repair (again only really applies if you try that drilling method... and dont try it with normal drill bits, they make special kits).

Dont worry if it spans the whole window. Just wait it out until spring or summer or whenever and replace it then.

thanks for the advice. it's just a little freaky drivin around like that cause of the potholes around here. everytime i hit something, i'm afriad the glass is gonna crack some more.

but i'll probably take care of it asap though. it's just weird and freaky havin to look at the long crack on the glass.

and i found a place near my work that can do it for about 150 so that ain't too bad as i thought

The crack will obviously make the window weaker, and more likely to smash if something hits it again (like another rock again) and possibly hitting you, so it's not something you want to wait too long to do

If it's a bullseye out of your sight, I'd say just drive with it. I have a tiny one and the dude that inspected the car last year said it was ok. Replacement glass is not as good as the factory windshield in my opinion, and you will never get a factory windshield even if you pay $700 to the dealership for a windshield. So it's like that deal when you are drinking beer with your buddies--once you break "the seal" you open up the floodgates. I feel that replacement glass is very susceptible to cracking and chipping due to its low quality. my .02
