UDP install using impact

I have an auto. I can't use the tranny to lock my crankshaft pulley. I shouldn't have a problem taking off the pulley if I use a air impact(borrowing from friend). I just wonder about putting it back on. I plan on hand tightening the nut and then air impacting it on there. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad idea. I want to tighten it to specs, but I'm not sure how to do it if I'm using an air impact.

I just put an Unorthodox Racing UDP on my car a couple of weeks ago and was in your same predicament (5 speed auto). I have a huge 3/4" drive air impact wrench that couldn't loosen the nut until I hooked it up directly to my compressor to get a full 160 lbs. of air pressure. I put it back on with the air impact, thinking that since it barely had enough torque to take the nut off, it couldn't over tighten it.

So, I say if you can get it off, put it back on the same way. Good luck!

Just turn the impact down to only push about 75-100ft lbs and tighten the bolt with that amount.

Here is how you install it on an auto. What I did was remove the starter and put a crowbar into the driveplate teeth to keep it from turning while I loosened the bolt. So this will be a 2 person job.

Put a long breaker bar against the floor, and on the pulley nut, get in the car and blip the starter...worked for me.

The UDP is aluminum so torque is not the same as the old cast stocker. If you are worried about it coming loose put some locktite on it vs being a strongarm. Do what Dixit said.

You are supposed to tighten it to 35ft lbs, and then turn it 60*degrees more.

There is a small access port on the tranny where you can wedge a chisel or what not in there. Here is a useful link. http://www.greghome.com/Greg's%20Garage/1999%20Nissan%20Maxima%20SE/Underdrive%20Pulley.htm

thanks for all the responses. So I can get locktite at autozone? Does anybody have an exact torque spec for aluminum flywheels?

What does an aluminum flywheel got to do with a UDP Crankshaft Pulley?

BTW torque specs on the FLYwheel are 65ft lbs.

When I did mine, I bliped the starter and then torqued it back on to about 130Ib/Ft. You can easily hold that much back by hand so there is no need to lock the crankshaft.

Sorry for not responding. My internet was down. What I mean by holding back by hand is sliding the pulley on the crankshaft, tightening the bolt until it starts spinning the pulley and then hold the pulley with one hand and tighten with the other. I found that with my 16" torque wrench I could easily achieve the required 130 Ib/Ft

Thanks, they are SSR type C's. I really like them also and they improve agility 10 folf. And they may be light but they aren't light enough(14.4Ibs). They still slowed my 1/4 mile by .15 sec.
