What max has the least issues?
Just curious here... I wanna take a poll of all you guys and see what gen has had the least problems.
For me... I can't really say any others because, well, i've never owned them lol. I bought my 89SE *right* when it needed major work done. It's been 30k miles since then and no problems yet!

Well nothing has really ever broken on mine, I've just replaced it all before it had the chance to.
Our 2000 SE 5spd is having a coil/studder issue, but its no biggy.
Neither of my 3rd gens have ever left me stranded anywhere. Infact none of my cars have.

well, I have had two VE 5-speeds (first one drove to 160k and current has 148k) and the worst (most expensive) problem I've had is the water pump on the current one. The first one had the clutch slave cylinder go bad. Oh, also two window regulators on this one and cracked coil packs. I have also never been stranded (same with my brother who I bought the current car from). Between them, I know of no other problems for a total of nearly 200k driven miles.
Logically, thought, this poll is kind of biased towards the newer cars. Because 6th gens are so new, they are unlikely to have any problems. The same goes for the 5th gens. I imagine most 5th gen drivers have less than 75k, while virtually everyone with a 1st, 2nd or 3rd gen has over 100k.
I voted for 3rd gen, just because I have had such good luck with mine
saying that, I virtually ensure myself of some kind of mishap, but I'll hope for the best...

My 4th Gen has been flawless, even with turbo, exhaust, suspension, etc.
Anyhow, this poll is lacking the most important option so it's back to O.T. for me.
