funny noise at start up

Hey guys I just went to my car to move it and I went to start the car and it started but then I heard another grinding noise like 3-5 sec after start up. What do you think this could be? Could it be the starter is going bad.

Yes its the starter. Is this the first time you have heard it? Did you overcrank by chance?

Did it go VEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?

If so, the starter needs to be regreased.

It could also be a noisy timing chain.

That is true, and the sound will be intermittant. I regreased mine about 40,000 miles ago b/c I had that problem. Haven't had a problem since....kind of forgot about it.

Mine mad that grinding noise all winter, and once it got warm again it stopped making noise altogether, i can't confirm for sure, but i don't think it is harmful to have it grind, but you'll just have to replace it eventually.

I get it once in like 200 starts.. totally random. Not worth it even bothering with it unless it's constant.

My 00 does that fairly often when it's cold, but less than half the time. When it's warm it almost never does it. For me it's a metal grinding sound just as the revs peak after starting it. I have heard it's either the timing chain, which in this case is OK and it's nothing to worry about, or the starter, and regreasing it can fix it, or you can just let the thing destroy itself. A year later it looks like I'm taking that route, since I've not touched it
