Anyone ever break a carrier bearing?

Well I thought the trans blew yesterday, today i start pulling the trans and motor (other stuff going on and need motor out) I go to pull the passenger side bolts out and notice the DS is just sitting there popped out of the trans and the bracket snapped in half. Anyone ever have this happen?

What carrier bearing? What is a DS? Is this your GF's car with the 3.5 or your turbo car?

carrier bearing = that whole bracket thing that supports the passenger side axle.

DS = Driver Side

Tilley,

I haven't broken one either...didn't know it was possible....likely cause of all the torque your putting down now.

The car in question has always been a manual tranny car...good thought though...and nice piece of information to know

I know of a lot of people who have broken axles but never someone who broke the thing the axle bolts up to.

I was gonna say. If DS means drivers side there is no carrier on that side. I was confused for a moment.

No, I have never heard of this breaking. There are certainly people laying more torque than that. Mine was in perfect shape when I pulled it a month ago. Is there any evidence that it contacted anything? Large rock or maybe your engine rocked so much it hit the black crossmember.

What is that piece called? The extremely large solid steel piece that connects to the suspension and chassis and spans the beam of the car.

Chances of it hitting that with the PR motor mounts is very slim.

TopElement, why did you pull that from your car? Out of curiousity how much does it weigh?

Tilley, I would agree that it would be wholey impossible to hit the subframe since you have PR mounts. I was unaware.
