Remote starter

i just bought a new maxima (2003) and i want to get a remote starter for the rest of the winter. does anyone know how involved it is for the installment. does the chip in the key make the remote installation any different?

From some of the previous posts that I have read, it is pretty involved, and most people have advised to get a professional to install it. I am interested in getting one myself, but don't think I will be installing it.

Let a professional install it. You'll have to give up your spare key, they hide it in your car inside a module that transmitts the keys' signal only when the remote start system is activated. In other words, your immobilizer system is still active if somebody trys to steal your car. I purchased mine, installed for $250. I had them configure it to work off my factory remote. Two lock impulses on my remote will active the remote start and start the car with the doors locked.

what he said is true. my buddy owns a shop and he says you use a dei module the is a key in a box. instead of giving up your spare he always suggests getting one chiped from the dealer or locksmith but doesnt have the key cut. its not that bad of an install but i would leave it to a pro. i have done a few on hondas which use an immobilizer chip in the key but they use a different module that dosesnt require a spare key. anyway its not a problem for an installer to do just time consuming
