4K RPM rev limiter?!

2003 VQ35 ECU... I am getting a 4K or so rev limiter.. It's not the MAF.. I'm not throwing a code for that... and it's too high of RPM for that. Anyone ever run into this problem?

How are you verifying what the true RPM is?

a rent a car i once drove, (2004 FORD taurus) and in neutral or park, it would now rev past 3500 RPM, so maybe that is what it is.

Is the ECU for auto or stick? Is your car auto or stick?

If you have the wrong one, it can do that. A friend of mine had a problem like that. I'll ask him how he solved it.

I'm not throwing any codes for the drive by wire system... It's more like an ignition cut or nasty fuel cut.

This seems more like a open loop problem... As long as I keep it in closed loop, the car runs great. As soon as I mash the gas, or put it in open loop.. it bogs/misfires. I am going to get the exhaust finished tomorrow, so that I can better diagnose this thing. My neighbors don't really like a un-corked VQ35 screaming in my driveway..

Oh, and for some reason, my primary o2 sensor heaters aren't working.. I am throwing a code for bank 1 and 2 o2 heater. I wonder if that would affect anything major.. besides gas mileage.

I was going to suggest the engine possibly either being cold or "perceiving" it's cold. I remember my dad's old '98 lude would cut out at 5 or 6k when it wasn't fully warmed up, with a 7400rpm redline. Normal rev limit for that car is 8k.

I don't know if VQs do that or not though.

P.S. take a video of pure unadulterated VQ35 bliss before you put the zorst back on... please?

When you push the pedal all the way do the RPM's stay at 4k steadily or do they bounce like a real rev limiter?

New MAF fixed the problem... It was bogging at about 4K rpm, but the MAF voltage was only 1.8 volts at 4K when it was bogging down. New MAF.. and it runs great
