Yea they are pretty heavily biased against V1, but it is like a five year old design. That was the only website that I knew of that had tests of many different radar detectors, including the V1.

Everyone is basically gonna tell you Valentine 1. That's what most everyone recommends.

The V1 is the best, but it's also $400.

The Passport 8500 is really good also and it costs $300 or less. I'm not sure how much better the Valentine One is, but I went with the 8500 and saved myself $150.
It's already saved me at least three times.

I love my V1, but based on what I've learned, I think I wish I had a Passport 8500 instead. The V1 is great, but it is chatty as hell. Drives me nuts. Not selective enough, and I really don't care about the rear antenna.

If I could stealth-install an 8500 like I did my v1, I'd do it in a minute.

It is an extensive test, but they seem to go out of their way to rip the V1.......which to me discredits their other tests.......If they had any decent amount of common sense, they would hire an "independent" proofreader and make sure they're not being unnecessarily biased. Obviously, Mike at V1 must have ticked them off.....

There are ways to rip products without appearing biased. They chose not to exercise their discretion, so this reader doesn't believe much of what they advocate.....

If you go to the V1 website he talks about the "tests" and gives his side of the story. If the valentine one is such a bad radar detector, then why does everyone want one?

Besides, there scores weren't just on performance, they also scored on appearence and features - which are very opinion based.

Just recently shut of X-band on my 8500 since I don't think the POlice in my area use it and because it seemed all the falsies were X-band. So far has cut out almost all the falsies completely! I can now enjoy my tunes without being unduly interrupted by shreiking bleeps every now and then.

You are nuts!:)

Mismosh- If you live in Cleveland they sure as hell use X-band. The highway patrol uses nothing but Xband for radar and then the deadly laser. You had better turn that back on, or you are in for a surprise the day you get on 90/71/480

Re: You are nuts!:)

Hey thanks Shumax!
Have had the detector for only a few weeks and have mainly used it for interstate travel so far. Guess back on it goes...

Yeah, I was driving through Ohio on my way to Colorado on I-70, quite a few x-band bandits out there but not as bad as I-80. I got quite a scare when I was passing a Taurus right before a work zone in the right lane. I had slowed down from 90 to 73 and was going to slow down further for the work zone when the laser warning on my V1 goes off. I start looking for why the damn thing went off and about 30 feet in front to my right, sitting on the grass between the shoulder and the highway entry ramp from the rest area was the reflected logo of the Ohio Highway Patrol.

I was going to do that, cause of the few false alarms, but then I was going to Atlantic City this weekend, and my radar went off twice with X band. Once in Philly, and once on the AC Expressway. So I decided that the few false alarms are worth leaving it on.

But I even get false alarms with K band, CVS and a few banks emit K band signal around me.
