Yes that's official 140mph at around 5700-5900 rpm 5th gear and yes IT was still climbing toward 6000rpm.

Oooh yeah one more thing the noise level is deafening and keep BOTH hand's on the wheel i could not get myself to watch the tach so i had my roomie read it out to me.

Any regret's.........no but the wind blast at 140mph nearly dismounted some motocylist traveling at half my indicated speed lol

yeah going that fast is scary. i was in my friends 92 integra going down to foxwoods casino and we hit 133mph. thought the body was going to rip pff and we'd be riding on the frame. when we stopped the radiator was practically on fire. going that fast will definitely get your heart pounding

In my superfast 92 SE, I have gotten to 150 at an indicated 6200 RPM (Speedo was way optimistic at that speed; tack is a bit more reliable to judge actual speed)

The manual 5th gen is running @ +- 6100 RPM. The manual 5.5th gen will be much lower. 5th = .795 5.5th = .605 (I think)
. I think the final drive changes a bit, but not too much. We should be pulling 2300-2500 @ 120 KMh (+- 74 MPH) instead of 3000. (can you say 'Hello 28 MPG!', or 'Hello 160-170 MPH!' (boosted, no way a stock 255-260HP will do that).

Ive gotten my 98 I30 up to 135 but I was too much of a ***** to push it much more even though my baby was askin for more. I used to drive a Jetta (shh dont tell no one) and I topped out @ 120 with that thing. Some day I'll grow some nuts and push it more. There's plenty of road to do so in California

I wonder what happens when you hit a deer at that speed...

Just a caution...don't speed too often in wooded areas...too many deers or other critters that can jump out at the wrong time...

Something tells me the deer would pretty much splash...

Wasn't there some thread bout BMW's actually overstating how fast you are going (like to make you feel better, etc.) Are our Max speedometer gauges accurate over 100? Anyone ever get a radar gun out and point it at you at that speed?

lol......I had my sentra at 115mph and it was still climbing. I had both hand on the wheel in a death grip practically. One of the biggest rushes. I don't go fast all the time. I just really want to know what the top speed is. Im guessing about 120 or so...

spedometers dont lie...

they are off by the same % all the way up... measure it at 60mph on the interstate, take a watch and time how long from 1 mile marker to the next... then figure out how far off your spedo is.. if the calculations say 55 when you are going "60" according to the spedo, then obviously, at "120" according to the spedo, you will actually be doing 110.. make sense?

someone mentioend bmw's being off, I've heard some supra owners complain about their spedo over-displaying by up to 25mph at excessively high speeds.. that sucks.

LMAO!!

Right!!

The Max speedo's are on point.. The Dyno machine register the same as the speedo on about 7-8 max's at a local dyno meet we did last year. The only one that was off was one particular 3rd gen(it was off about 15mph above 100).

Maybe I'm the only one then. Around where I work in Boston there are those radar gun trailers that the popo leave on the side of the road and flash in huge numbers how fast you are going all over the place. When my speedo says 40 the sign says 36-37. Every time. I got pulled over once when I was doing 60 and the cop said I was doing 55. My speedometer must be way off. So does that mean when "I'm doing 120 plowing over mailboxes" I'm actually only doing 110?

I hit an indicated 138 @ 4800RPM a couple of times. I probably could have gotten a littl more, but not much.

throttle jocks

I've got a dash shot taped to my monitor from the drive home from the Malibu Gran Prix cars at MAXUS 2000 (I think it was 2000, the one in Atlanta). 131mph at exactly 5500RPM. I run 225/50/16 SP8000s which are smaller in overall diameter than stockers... I guess that would explain the higher RPMs than should be expected at "only" 130mph. It was fun. Nighttime, passenger dug the camera out and I let it auto-focus and shot it. It came out surprisingly good considering how shaky I was with adrenalin raging through my veins.
Speed is fun. I see 150mph plus all the time on motorcycles but somehow it's more exhilarating in cars. I guess 'cause it take so long to get to that speed. At any rate, it's fun.
