His 14.39 is with mods, powershifting, and under ideal conditions (good weather, very sticky track). I believe his best before mods was a 14.9. There are a handful in here doing 14.4-14.7s with NA 4th and 5th gens. However, these cars are modded. The new 6 speed is going to be loaded and heavy. 17" rims, HLSD, 6 speed tranny, Navi, sunroof, dual power seats, climate control, airbags galore, etc all will add weight to Nissan's flagship. It's gonna be a sweet car, but I have a hard time believing mid to low 14s out of this car, stock. Stock 5th gen 00-01 5 speeds are putting down about 180fwhp and 185fwtq or a loss of about 19% which is really high for a manual (this is why I think Nissan has overrated the motor). Seeing that the 260hp VQ will be mated to HLSD and speed a little more drivetrain loss should be expected. Let's say 20%. So we're looking at 205fwhp and 210fwtq possibly which is very good, but I'd bet a 6 speed SE will weigh close to 3300lbs if not more. Technically (not relying on dyno info) the power to weight ratio will be about 13:1. A 5th gen is about 14:1 and a 4th gen is about 16:1. Oddly, a stock 4th gen is just as quick as a stock 5th gen (00-01), which leads me to believe the 02 isn't going to substainally quicker than either version. I'd love it to be a rocket, but I don't see it happening.

I could be wrong though......

Dave
There's one more thing that no one has focused on that I bet will make a difference. That is - the ability to use the entire power curve on the 2k2.

One of the biggest differences between the 2k2 and 2k/2k1 is that on the 2k2 peak hp is going to be at around 5800 with red-line at 6600. 2k has peak hp at fuel-cut redline 6600. As a result, the 2k cannot not effectively use the its hp curve. Normally, you'd shift at some point past peak hp to get the most effective use of the hp curve. Can't do that with the 2k but you will be able to do it with the 2k2.

It doesn't have to have all that junk on it. You can order it without leather, sunroof, yada yada. That's the version I'm interested in. 255 HP, 6 speed, with HLSD. (For $26,000) None of the fluff wanted or needed. Give me cloth and stock stereo. I don't need a stinkin hole in the top of my roof or a computer to tell me I'm lost.

I've seen 2000 Maximas run 15 flat at the track. I fully expect the 2002 to hit 14.6.

ya i looked at one, a 2k2 6-spd with HLSD and only a roof. that's it. i need a hole in my roof, after having one a car seems WAY too dark inside without one. i hope they are 14.4's stock. i can't believe them not to be, unless nissan makes 3rd gear end at like 96mph so you have to shift at the 1250' mark.

If I have to wait 2 more months for the HLSD, forget it. I just want a 6spd . I wonder if it will be possible to add the HLSD to the 6spd? Are you getting a 02 6spd to Steve? That whould be cool..

i thought about it, but i am most likely getting an E36 M3, i'm a decent sized guy but not as big as you and the car suits me to a T. It's the best handling car at any price according to several magazine tests. Run's anywhere from, from what i've read, a 13.9-14.2 1/4 mile stock and a 5.5 to 60. and the brakes, well 60-0 in like 115 feet. that will pull your eyeballs out. The BMW with more options than a 2k2 will cost me a little less. i wanted a roof, bose and heater seats and stuff. i'm a pretty boy i need my amenities.

M3's are definatly awesome cars, i almost bought one last week, the SOB sold it before I got a chance to buy it though. I think I want a brand new car this time around.

ya i really would like a new car just for the sheer feeling of it all, everything is new and untouched. waiting for you(like a cute little virgin). but with how much i want to spend and what i want out of it the maxima is a real stretch for me. the BMW is just so perfect stock, i can't beat it.
