i know everyone says dental floss, but it didn't work for me. i used a knife to get to a corner 1st, and lifted it up and just forced it to peel off. much faster than floss.

What if you just pull the floss toward you? It should just pry up no? I'm going to be doing this soon also.

I love a modded car, I just have someone else install them usually, with the exception of the clear corners and headlight bulbs.
Now, I will get down and clean my rims, i will get in the trunk when i blow a fuse on an amp, i will put wiper fluid in, and yes i will put gas in... but anything bigger than that and Im paying someone.... I'm still a PRINCESS, cant get too dirty

I used an adhesive remover also. It helped to loosen the glue and then the fishing line was all that I needed. Just be careful not to scratch your paint.

I don't do much of my own work either. No tools or garage until recently. It helps to know the guys at Autogear pretty well since they take good care of me. Does that make me a prince or a king perhaps? Maybe but just like Mel Brooks said: "It's good to be the king".

I'd like to learn to do more stuff...in time I will.

Don't try the knife, you have agood chance of scratching the paint! I've removed the emblems on 4 Maxima's so far. The easiest way to remove the emblem is at the powerwash. Just put it on soap and put the nozzle at an angle point-blank at the edge of the emblem. After a minute or so, it will fall off. Then, use a hair drier and heat up the glue so you can take it off. I used my finger nail after I heated up the glue. Then, use a good wax/cleaner and take off the film under the glue. I've done this on three Superblack maxima's and none of them has a scratch!

Here's what you need to do.

Use a hair dryer first and heat up whatever you want to take off then you use the dental floss to remove it. The middle part of the emblem is hard to get past because it is all double sided adhesive there. Then get some adhesive remover, preferably 3M, and the remaining adhesive should come off. Then just wax the area again and you're done.

i hope this helps.. you'll need to do this where no one can see u, cuz u'll look a bit funny if someone was lookin' at u from theback.. neways. pull on one side of the string and the other. u might wanna wear gardening gloves so it wont hurt your hand. wrap both ends on your hhands, and begin he sawing motion. feed the line as indicated in the diagram. u'll hafta put hella elbow grease into it. or get the hubby...
slicksmax.. too much water pressure can harm your clear coat.. that's why on some whater pressurizer systems they have warnings on them sayin' you shouldn't use certain nozzels for automobiles.

That's a pretty good diagram.

Another way which might help is to go incrementally...in other words, if you can get the line into the area of the first upper "arch", heat and slowly "cut" thru, then do the middle section (the part that says NISSAN), then the lower "arch", then the outer areas (all the while re-heating as you go).

I used a hair-dryer on its "warm/hot" setting for heating, and the good ol' elbow grease. "Goo-gone" might also help, tho I heard other people used WD40 to remove the remaining sticky adhesive.

A few good polishes also helps afterwards.

Mingo...

Yes, thats true, but most of the pressure washers at the self service car wash aren't that powerful. I used to work at a car wash/detail shop, and the pressure washers we use are 800 psi, then the touchless system in the car wash tunnel was 1600psi. The only clear coat that ever peeled in the 4 years I worked there were the Cheap Maaco paint and paint that had chipped and already started to peel. When I did mine, it took me no time because I was about 1/2 inch from the emblem. I've also done 3 other Max's like this, and it always works good. Actually, after you take off the emblem, you can't even phase THE GLUE that holds on the emblem, even if you put the powerwash directly on the glue. I would hope that factory clear coat is stronger then the glue that holds on the emblem! But yes, there is a possibility of the clear coat peeling, but you would have to use at least a 2000psi pressure washer to do that to a factory paint job.

Max Speed: Either my way or DavidL7's way would be the most effective way, and Mingo's way might take a little longer.

this is what i did to get my dealer emblems off..
I got a screwdriver and taked it with electrical tape so it wouldn't damage the paint on my car.
then i made it where the emblem's corner was lifting.
then i got an old credit car and covered one end of that with electrical tape
and i just pushed the credit card through and it worked!
then just washed my car and the glue was gone..

btw the reason why i didn't use a hair dryer is cuase i live in texas and it get like 110 in the day
so the glue was already melted

Re: Here's what you need to do.

uh oh..did i brain wash u on the 3M stuff?
toss the dental floss...USE FISHING LINE.. that stuff can pull in a 30 lb fish you can use that to cut through the glue. DO NOT USE ANYTHING METAL..no screw drivers, no switch blades..well unless your REALLY good at touchups.
just use the line as a saw..the floss is not as strong as the fishing line. if u want a piece i'll just mail one to you. anyone else wants to get on this group buy?
Dan
