The first time I ever drove a stick, my father had me do a hill start as my first time...and I failed miserably. I drove that car about 10 times before getting my Maxima, and I only stalled it 1 or 2 times while learning it.

I only stall out when I am not paying attention or when I try to accelerate gently without using the gas to start rolling.

man that is strange because in most cars, including maximas, the gear ration of reverse is more forgiving for some reason and u don't have to give as much as gas. I've never stalled in reverse.

i'm just curious, does everybody pul the praking brake AND put the car in gear when u turn it off ? i just put the parking brake on and leave it in neutral.

If the parking brake slipps are fails then it will be in gear and not roll away.
Actually if im not on a hill I usually just leave it in 1st or reverse and dont pull the ebrake, especially if its outside and im not going to drive it for a while had a car I left for 3 weeks with the ebrake pulled and they wouldent release (rusted )

Anyway I have owned a manual for all my life. and almost never stall although recently I think my master cylinder is dieing because the grab point keeps changing and the fully engaged full disengaged point is getting narrower and narrower which sucks. Also I got a slow low torque 4 popper right now with a heavy Accord. So i been comming close recently. Also the people that never ever do may be the kind that slip the hell out of it to start out ( 4 k slip from stop) I dont. most of the time i start out almost like an auto one smooth motion cant even tell its a 5 speed reve match both up and down when shifting no clutch slipping at all. My clutches last 200k

My wife drove the car around the block with me in the yard listening to her slip the crap out of it . She stalled ONCE. Turns out she left the parking brake on... Shoot, I would have stalled it, too!

I personally stall maybe twice a year, usually when fully loaded with people and baggage and trying to accelerate slowly from a stop, but forgetting about all the weight. That can get embarrassing, but at least I restart it in like less than a second and don't hold up traffic

driving it, maybe once when i wasnt paying attention at a light and i drive in the worst of mass. traffic, but once when i started it up in the morning i forgot i left it in 1st, pulled the clutch out and just stalled.i got mad that i did it and felt so bad for the car

actually it is very rare for me to stall at a stop light... But i do make an occasional newbish mistake where i shut off the car, put the ebrake on, and put the car on 1st...
Then when i get to drive it, i tend to forget that the car is in 1st so i just drop the clutch assuming its in neutral, the car jerks like crazy, scaring me too LOL... embarrassing sometimes if in public

maybe once a year =p I drive different manual tranny cars every day or so and if I hop into one with a different clutch or different motor and I dont pay attention at all I occasionally pull a retard

An accessory question would be, 'how high do you rev before letting the clutch out when you're at a stop?' I've seen honda guys rev up to 3k and let the clutch out. It's a smooth engagement, never stalls, but doesn't that wear the clutch?

I stalled so infreq, I can't remember when was the last stall. I blip to 1k and let it out. I have ACT street clutch, which's heavy pedal action, and 'on/off' engagement.

i usually launch between 700 and 1500rpm unless steeply uphill or recovering from a stall and just needing to hustle away. Once the problems were settled through, probably stall once every month or two. Hardest part is launching up a steep hill when trying to move VERY slowly... catching it before rolling back but also not rocketing away. When i did my tranny swap i had a bad MC, had fluid pressure issues after the MC was replaced (would get STIFF as hell after driving a few miles or letting the car sit idling but was soft in the mornings) then i replaced ALL of that stuff and i kept stalling on the new clutch cuz the feel was way way different... so i took out the pedal assist spring, customized the upper and lower stopper positions, now the pedal feels AWESOME and it's so easy to drive. So i probably won't stall again for a long time. Unless I'm trying to make a video.....

yeah 3000 is wayyyy to high for my 02 Maxima. i'd say usually in the 1,500 - 2,000 range. Although living in houston , i'm often in heavy traffic, and i'll often just slowly let the clutch out and not give it any gas if we are creeping along at 4 mph .

maybe not so nice for my clutch, but any MPG help is nicccceeeee !

i deff stalled when i was first learning.. but nowadays ( my max is my 3rd stick car) i never stall due to lack of skill or anything. I usually just forget my car is in gear when i start it cuz i'm too dam distracted lol or my foot slips off or some stupid embarrasing shiv like that. it happens to the best of us

Yeah, I'm under 1k for sure. On hills, i'll do 1.5k. My ACT has 115k on it, and still plenty of meat left.

The good thing about the VQ is that if you're about to stall, just kick in the clutch pedal and the engine will recover itself. It pulls itself from the dead down to 200 rpm, love VQ and EFI!!! Very very forgiving.

yah i agree Maxima's are among the easiest manual cars to drive. But kicking in the clutch on any car will save it from a stall. Are you just saying VQ's can be saved easier than a mustang GT for ex. ?

Bull****, hahaha. Everyone stalls, i'd say atleast once every 6 months at best.
I stall every couple of months, atleast, got no problem admitting it either.
Easy to forget where that clutch point is when reversing, or not concentrating, or hell, I find it hard enough when I drive a different fleet vehicle for work everyday, plus my own company vehicle.

stalled twice when i first got her, changed clutch hasn't happened since. Have never stalled on my 07 6spd Altima, softest ****test clutch i have ever driven!! I dont even listen to the engines, i just feel the cars i can have the bass up and system pumping and i still take off same rpm all the time without looking or listening...

And yes i did apologize to her when i stalled, lol

lol no need to pull "retards" just tap on the gas while slowly easing of the clutch, done correctly you can drive any car and you don't burn the clutch.

I tried to drive my mom's '04 Civic today and the clutch felt so awkward. It was stiffer than the Max's and didn't pick up predictably.

About 45 minutes later, I get in the Maxima and almost stall it because of my foot's newly adjusted reflex.

I've stalled it a couple of times after first getting it.

Same, when I'm in reverse I never have problems. I don't think I've ever to my memory stalled a car in reverse (with the exception of trying to rock stuck vehicles out of mud and snow or move a car with a snapped clutch cable on the starter).

Normally in reverse I am paying attention, the only time I stall out is when I am completely just not paying attention to anything.

Never? I might belive never in your max but everyone stalled atleast once when they were learning, i stalled coulntless times when i was learing (i learned in a 07 civic like the day my parents brought it home from the dealership so the clutch was like perfect and with an engine that small in a 4 door car It was tough). But as far as in the maxima only twice, its my second stick car, 3rd if you count the civic but i only drove that when i had my permit.

I've been in cars where if the rpm dips below idle, it struggles to stay alive. Maybe it's the heavy flywheel keeping momentum?

500 miles into my Fidanza light flywheel and i haven't stalled it.. yet. Probably will happen before the day is out haha. Drove back from atlanta and me and my friend each drove half way. We got off the highway for some gas and he stalled it at the stop sign tho.

I never stall, but when I stall there is usually a good reason...I have stalled one time in the winter and when I have too many ppl in my car and did not relies the huge weight increase. lol

O and I did stall once spacing out... lol
