O/D blinking!?

What does that mean? For some reason today the O/D off light started blinking while I was driving around in the snow? Anyone know what it means? And also, when that happened, if I tried to shift gears manually, say to 1 or 2, it wouldnt downshift from 3rd. But turning off the car and turning it back on seemed to fix the problem. Ideas anyone?

That happened to me once when I had a Nissan Altima rental car. I was just trying to drive the car thru a snow bank and got stuck but I kept revving and revving it and eventually the o/d light came on. The car wouldn't shift out of 3rd gear. But after I turned off the car and let it cool the tranny was ok.
So how hard we're you driving in the snow?

You can do a diagnostic, instructions can be found in the "4th Gen Maxima Maintenance Items" thread in the 4th gen forum - but this applies to 98-99 only.

It went into failsafe mode. My Altima did this after I had done a huge burn out in the rain. I had to turn it off, wait about 10 seconds and turned it back on. It fired up from there. It's just something to protect your engine or tranny.
