Actual gear indicator for 4AT
Hey guys. I know everyone here is a die hard automatic enthusiast and there's a massive abundance of info on advanced automatic transmission setups, but I seem to be having a hard time finding some specific info.
So with my new setup, I've had the need to control the gears in my 4AT a little more precisely. While manually shifting allows advancement to the next gear and gives me a readout of what gear I'm in while accelerating after allowing a shift, the car still shifts into lower gears while cruising without giving an actual readout. For example, if I limit the car to 3rd, and slow down a bit, the car will still change to lower gears, but I will receive no visual indication of what the active gear is.
I was wondering if anyone with an automatic transmission knows a part or special install in order to get an actual indication of what gear the car is in, even in drive, as opposed to only the limited chosen gear or Drive. I suppose I could shift down to 2nd to confirm the car is actually in 2nd, but with my turbo setup, it's essential that I know what the actual gear is when I'm in a spirited drive where I'm speeding up and slowing down a lot since I cannot use drive while doing so because of its setup to automatically downshift with heavy acceleration or at certain pedal points.
I know there are indicators that can be added, but I'm only familiar with it displaying the chosen gear, as opposed to the actual gear. Perhaps I can set something up with an OBD2 connection.
