Yes, you can do an engine swap between a 6th generation 2004 Nissan Maxima and a 7th generation 2012 Nissan Maxima,
I HOPE THAT MY ANSWER is helpful and not too late

It's a bad idea. A 6th gen engine has oil consumption problems and timing chain issues.

sadly that is not helpful because it wont work.

cam trigger wheels are wrong and pinned wrong. youll have to do the opposite of the 7th to 5th gen swap. theres no EVT control so that will **** off the 7th gen ECM even if you could get past the trigger wheel issue.

The motor from a 6th gen is vastly inferior to the engine from a 7th gen. The amount of work you would have to do to make it run is not worth it. Either return the engine or sell it to someone else and buy the right engine.

It is possible that the 6th generation engine can be fitted to the 7th generation Maxima, but some adjustments will likely be required. Parts that will need to be replaced or adapted include engine mounts, exhaust system components, electronic system components (ECU, wiring), and some accessory components such as the alternator or fuel pump.
