Emergency!!

I was driving on 5th gear and I down shifted to 3rd and smoke filled the interior and smoke came out of the emergency brake with a really bad smell. It smelled like nasty gas.

-This is while I am driving 60MPH.

What could of caused this smoke to come out?

what do you mean slower? Does it seem like the clutch is slipping?

When this first happened, what exactly did you do?

You have to elaborate more, tell us exactly what happened, otherwise it is hard for us to tell what is going on.

When you say smoke came out of your emergency brake, are you saying that:
a) smoke came out of the back wheels; or
b) smoke came out from the e-brake handle, at the center console near the shifter.

What are the chances you may have put it into 1st accidentally, instead of 3rd? If it still runs, great but could you have smoked your clutch bad? smoke = no comprende, coz the clutch is contained .... I dunno, breathe tube or gap at shifter

Can you pinpoint how the smoke entered? Underneath the dash, driver or passenger side, etc.

Automagics rule!!!!!

I don't think it is even possible to shift into 1st, and if he somehow did, I think he would have either locked up the front wheels and spun off the road, or dropped his tranny on the ground right there.

Another question, did you let the clutch out after you shifted into 3rd, or did it smoke before you let the clutch out?

One senario would be that you stayed in 5th, floored it and dropped the clutch at high rpms, and the clutch slipped really bad and started smoking....

just an idea?
