Motorola Talkabout 2-way radios... help!!

Hey guys, i have a Motorola Talkabout FR50 2-way radio (walkietalkie). First of all, will this radio be compatible w/ other motorola talkabout models?? meaning can i use my model to talk to someone else w/ a different model, but same Motorola Talkabout. I tried using my talkabout to talk to my friend who was like 100 ft away on his newer more advanced talkabout (we were on the same channel) but all i heard his voice all jarbily... like it was all mixed up. His talkabout supports channels and subchannels where as mine can only support channels. I don't think that really would affect it because he said his can be on just channel 5 w/o using subchannels. Anyways, i'm sure ppl out there use these and i was just wondering. Thanks for ure info in advance.

Check the back of the manual, it should list the freq.
Just find a common one.
Should work, the FRS sreq are all the same.
I use mine with other models all the time.

On some of those Motorola radios the audio can get a bit garbled because their FM modulation deviation levels are slightly different. The radio that deviates more will result in garbled audio on ones that deviate less. This is because the filters on the "tighter" radio will end up clipping the top of the audio signal and then that's where the garbled text comes from.

Hope that made some sense

Here you can find the manuals online

Check the Interference Eliminator Code in your buddy's 2-way is inactive (FR-50 does not seem to have that feature), and you both are in the same channel (frequency), which you seem to have already checked.

Ensure your friends radio is set on Channel 5 and subchannel "0" and not 5 and subchannel "1"
