Haven't gotten mine yet (hopefully will today) but I went to circuit city and they said they'll install it for $50. $50 is worth it to me not to have to take everything apart myself

I have a question regarding installation. Does the head unit need to be removed to install the panasonic? I have a bose unit on my 2k3 and don't want to deface any of the paneling or anything else for that matter. What about the RCA jacks on the sirius? Do they have to plug into the Bose HU? To my knowledge (I could be wrong), the Bose doesn't have RCAs, right? I don't know. I just want to be able to install myself, and I am looking for the best way to do it. Allowing the 16 year old at circuit city install this makes me nervous.

I think you shouldbe able to stick it to your dash withoout defacing your current setup.

There might be a DIN plug on your factory radio, but I dont know if there are adaptors to give you an RCA level input. Never the less, if you run it FM modulated, the sound quality is excellent. YOu keep your factory radio and you can have the controller come out of your center console. This eliminates the need to mount it on the dash.

If you call the 800 number, please use my name. (Matt Keown)

Thanks!

I got mine today and my FM modulation is TERRIBLE. I tried all the stations. There are actual radio stations on most frequencies and I hear that more the Sirius. I have ordered the adapter for my Bose but it won't be here for at least another week. Do you have any suggestions. I tried putting it close to the headunit as well as in the trunk. The only time I got a clear signal was when I put the FM modulator outside the car sitting on the trunk.

Placement of the FM modulator should not change the sound quality. I have installed many of these and never had a problem like you are describing. Not to ask a stupid question....but are you sure you plugged the thing in correctly? When the modulator is on, it should only send the Sirius signal to your radio, eliminating any outside stations. If you have the adaptor coming, that will fix your problem, but I would like to speak to you about this.

Please call me.

Maybe I am confused as to how this works. I thought it sent a signal out and the radio antenna picked it up. I have two more connectors on the modulator that I did not use. They are the ones to are supposed to go to the existing antenna and then to the headunit. I did not know how to connect them to my Bose. Are those necessary? I think I don't have it hooked up completely.

maybe you should've made sure you hooked it correctly before jumping all over the FM modulation. see what he says about the way you connected everything and see if that helps your reception. i sure hope so.

I was not jumping over FM modulation. I was stating that my FM modulation was terrible and asking if he had any suggestions on how to improve it. I believe I have it wired wrong and I am still looking for an answer as to how I need to hook up the two antenna connectors.

Ok, my fault. I didn't mean to flame you. I will probably make the same mistakes you made when I get mine. If you or anyone else has pictures after the install, I would like to see them. I need an idea as to how to best fit the unit in the car. Thanks, and sorry WaarrEagle.

Ok, got mine installed at Circuit City tonight and the guy there was pretty damn good -- nice guy too. They don't sell the Panasonic so he had some trouble since he hadn't done one of them before but overall the install went ok just long (~3 hrs ugh).

2 things.. First, I had to buy 2 adapter wires to get the FM modulator to work with the bose. Nissan uses (I think this is right) a larger plug for the antenna wire than the standard US one which is on the plug for the modulator. You have to convert from the larger size to smaller, plug in the modulator, then convert back to the larger size to plug into the Bose. Those wires were $12.99 a pop If you have an aftermarket radio chances are you already have one of these cables and won't need another.

Second, if you get it all working and call Sirius to get it activated and then suddenly you don't get audio from any channels including the preview channel turn the car off then back on. Apparently when they activate it you have to power cycle the thing to get it to work again (turning the unit off/on isn't enough). Was very frustrating for something so simple.

The FM modulator is mounted in the trunk and the sound quality is damn good -- better than I thought. So far so good.

Absolutely use the plugs for your antenna. This means you will need to pull the radio out and place the box with the antenna connectionsa between your antenna and the factory radio. Someone else pointed out that you will need a couple of antenna adaptors. This is standard on Nissan's because of the type of antenna connection they use. Make sure you have them before you pull your radio out. Also, if your radio has FM diversity, a very small antenna plug, unplug that. The reason you unplug it is that your radio will try to tune from both antennas if you leave it plugged in and that is the only time you should end up being able to hear a radio station and Sirius at the same time. I dont think you will have this, but worht mentioning if you do.

Hope this helps and again, you can call me if you need to.

Thanks!

Well, at least I know what the problem is. I will just wait until my AUX imput comes in becasue there is no need to buy those adapters and then throw them away in a week. Thanks for the help!

How much was that adapter? If I got to buy extra eq, I'd rather get the better sounding adapter.

I have a question regarding this group deal.
I just today, came into a Panasonic kit which was ordered through this deal here. During the waiting period the person who ordered the kit totalled his car. He got the kit in the mail today, but since he cannot use it he gave it to me. Now I already have an AudioVox kit which I received through a similar deal with Mobiletoys.com...I was wondering if the name on the person who ordered it had to be the one to activate, in other words can I give the kit to like my dad and he can activate it and get the service, but also prevent the original ordered from being charged?

in a nutshell
he gave it to me cuz he can't use it now and can't pay the 140..for the year if he misses the activation date. So what we are looking to do it give it to someone else have them activate it and have the original person free and clear from this.

The name doesnt matter. As long as the unit is active on the 26th, the card on file will not be billed.

Ok so the Sirius ID is all that matters then?
I just don't want to mess this up hehe

Also which kit is better, Panasonic or AudioVox?

activate before the 26th, even if your system isnt installed. Our office is going to check the ESN of every unit that is sent out and if it is not activated, you will be billed for the 1st year.

If the unit isnt installed, you will have to call when you get it installed to have the signal resent.

you can activate at www.sirius.com and save $10 on the activation.

So today I went out and bought the $15 adapter from Circuit City. I just bought the one that lets the FM Modulator plug into the headunit. It works great for about 5 minutes. The sound quality was great and everything. Then I drive up my street and it just cuts out and won't come back. I check all of my connections and everything looks good. It has power and I know it is receiving the signal because the artist/song show up. I tried hooking up a different set of RCA cables and still nothing. I pulled out my multimeter and checked the blue/black cable that goes from the tuner to the modulator. I get no voltage when the modulation is on any of the frequencies and I get 6V when I have "no modulation" selected. Now what? Is there any number I can call to get tech help? I checked the connection on the back of my headunit too. Thanks!

I also had another quick question as far as hooking it up.
1. How do I get behind the dash, i watch the guy install my Alpine HU and the thing like popped out into his lap.
2. My Alpine has 3 sets of rca preouts I guess, but is obviously not Sirius ready (its XM) Can i not use the FM modulator and just hook it up with the RCA cable directly to the HU? Looking at the diagrams that looks simple, just run power from receiver, run rca cable to HU and then hook the antenna and modulator up, and trash the FM adapter/modulator thingy?
3. Which is better the AudioVox or the Panasonic. My roomate has the AudioVox already hooked up in his car, his system sucks so its hard to tell if the quality is any good.
4. Can anyone who has hooked this up already give me detailed or semi-detail instructions for installation? I suck at this **** and don't feel like paying the 250 dollar price quote from circuit city, or the 220 from BestBuy. (instructions would include a non-sirius ready Alpine HU with "3 rca preouts") Thanks!

Although my setup is not working right now, I might be able to help. If your headunit has any RCA inputs then you do not need the FM modulator. Just wire the RCA jacks from the tuner into the headunit and use the AUX mode. Here is a good link for getting your dash apart. I have done this 3 times today and it gets easier every time: link From what I have read the Panasonic is better so that is the one I ordered. Good luck!

Are you sure the RCA jacks on the back of your headunit are inputs and not outputs?

Correct. If you dont have a set of inputs, you will have to run it RCA level. I recommend you having it professionally installed. I will tell you FM modulated, when installed propewrly sounds excellent.
