3 weeks and counting.....
I don't mean to be impatient but I'm getting a DVD player installed this weekend and I would like the security system for obvious reasons. Any updates from others that haven't received theirs....?

Nathan, and Ck69, both of your alarms came back due to inadequate paperwork (on Friday). I am so tired of USPS/Canada Post, I'm just gonna ship them priority for both of you tomorrow. I am sorry that the jerks at USPS don't feel I had all the paperwork necessary (even though I've been shipping to Canada for 6 years....)....either way, they will be getting to you promptly via UPS.
Thank you both. If you need me, contact me at

Eventually I'll get to the 4th gen write-up, but no sooner does a free weekend arrive and something comes up. I'll post it up when it's ready.

For any of you who are 2000 and are using my write-up, we have found some issues with the install that are not yet documented. I'd highly recommend that you re-visit my web-site in the next few days or talk to me if you are using version 1.09 or earlier. The new version will include the differences between the 2000 and 2001 models, as well as the wiring diagrams (the corrected version) for 2001.

no rush studman, im glad your even doing a write up for us 4th gen but i just wanted to put this in before my car is entered in the show. Its July 17th so it would be really cool if i could get the writeup by the 14th. If not dont stress i would just feel better.

Ditto! I got mine today as well. It looks so awesome I'm installing it asap. I'd like to thanks Alex for all his efforts as well as the dealer who supplied the alarms. I'd also like to thank UPS for not charging me any duties/taxes/brokerage fees

The warranty card is going to be useless. DEI (Viper) requires that the alarm be installed by a DEI dealer. It is against the dealers contract with DEI to sell them outright. If you try to get warrany service they will not honor it and they will track the serial # on the alarm to the dealer and he won't be a dealer anymore. If this deal has already sold 100+ alarms they're already on to him. Very few shops are going to order that type of quantity. The minimum order per quarter is $5,000 of alarm and video. Imagine he orders $15,000+ worth of 791XV's. He's done. Unless this supply came from a gray market dealer. Did they come in white boxes w/no manuals?? If they did they are refurbished.

Goodluck on warranty service. You'll need it.

No, they actually came in the original sealed packaging with all the manuals, stickers, warranty cards, and whatever other info that comes with any new alarm.

However, you do have a good point about the warranty on these. I'm assuming Alex has this taken care of somehow?

I just thought it was funny he wanted the warranty cards. DEI will want the bill of sale/installation receipt for warranty work. But they are first going to ask you to go the the dealer you had it installed at. The dealer is suppose to warranty it 1st.

Tsk tsk tsk....there you go with those assumptions...you know what they say about when you assume....it makes an *** out of you, and well, you....
If you go to the original thread (three months ago), I told everyone that I will warranty the items thru my dealer (my dealer didn't want to hassle with it), and DEI could give two ****s less about any of this, so....with that in mind, I asked everyone to send me back the cards, so I can pass them back to the dealer, so he can keep them on file. In almost five years on the org, I have never taken anyone for a dime, and don't intend to do so. Just cuz I'm not on here, doesn't mean I don't take care of business. So keep to yourself next time. Thanks
Alex

I'm waiting to hear back from the donor. I've left several messages and a PM or two for him, but to no avail.

Yep. It's first come first serve for the donor. The donor only pays for cost of parts on the install.

Alex, I haven't yet installed the alarm, but I was wondering if the alarm would pop the trunk lid with Studmans write-up? Or do I have to buy a seperate module to pop the trunk on my 2k2? Thanks,

Nathan

The write up includes information on wiring up the trunk release. You will need a standard automotive relay. Note that if the stock alarm is armed (it arms when the Viper arms), you should not be able to pop the trunk using the Viper remote. This is by design, as the stock alarm would go off otherwise.

Oh so what your saying is that in order to pop the trunk with the Viper remote, I would have to disarm the Viper alarm (ie. unlock the doors) before I can pop the trunk?

That is correct. It's not really a feature of the Viper. The wire that is tapped for the trunk release goes to the stock security system. If the stock alarm is armed, the stock security will not pass the ground signal through to the trunk actuator. This creates the need to disarm the stock alarm, which is done by disarming the Viper (which unlocks the doors).

It is entirely possible to wire up the trunk release wire from the Viper alarm directly to the trunk actuator, but in doing so, you will set off the stock alarm when you pop the trunk using the Viper remote, if the Viper alarm is not armed. DEI recommends against this method, and it is not supported by them.

Jeremy, I've been trying to track down yellow and red 3M butt connectors (taps) but can't find them anywhere. I've been able to get the blue ones but the red and yellow ones are huge, not like the ones in the write-up.

Can I just use blue ones for the install, or do I have to use red and yellow ones too? Where can I buy them from? I've tried Radio Shack, Home Depot, and lots of electronics parts stores with no luck.
