got it. My bad. Right now I'm trying to work a deal for Ksports with another member so my money is tied to that. I would like to add my name to the list but can't promise because I don't have sufficient funds now.

I think you'll get alot more response once this GD is combined with the 5th gen SFCs, since there are quite a few 5th genners that have wanted them for some time, as you know!
Hey irish, since the SFCs with the cross bracing aren't THAT much more than just the two main rails, why don't you just get the full set and remove the cross bracing when you have an event? That extra bracing will probably be nice to have for daily driving, but you can always remove them to remain in your class....

That said, I can always change my mind (which I do alot) Now that I have seen the x-brace design and see that it is FAR superior to the old WS setup, I am leaning toward actually getting it. I just didn't like the old WS x-brace design....

I do want to say to truax that it is nice to see you guys pick up where WS left it hanging...this is a mod that I think will become popular as long as the customer service stays responsive and product is made/shipped promptly. Looks like you're on the right track so far!

Guys,
Here is the offical weight for a 4th Gen set, 40 lbs. I used my bathroon scale so it might be off a little. The 5th Gen sets are perhaps 6 ounces heavier because of the slightly longer rail.
Mike and Sean will be putting the final touches on the first 10 sets tomorrow, so once we reach the first 10 who are in, they will go out pretty quick.
Thanks BlackMaxx96 for your assistance. Your set should show up tomorow, if they are not there already.

Dan

I don't see any functional difference. I thought the old cross-braces were a little bit simpler in design. (But then again, I don't have a picture of the old design in front of me either, so maybe memory serves me wrong.) I'm just glad that someone is making these again, so I don't have to go hunting for materials/skilled fabricators to make custom ones.

from a functional point of view, perhaps not. But the new design appears to be more thought-out and better for getting everything lined up nicely. Also it appears to have better ground clearance than the original WS design.

The middle lateral brace on the new design also looks to be structurally stiffer than the single-tube WS setup.

Both designs work, but this one just "looks" a little better from an engineering point of view. In any case, it is what it is, and it's better than anything else out there!

I take back what I said. After looking at these photos, I see that the center brace consists of continuous bars as well as significant overlap and "tongue-groove" fixation at the ends. This will prevent the center bars from shifting fore-aft and will give the other 4 bars a fixed point to anchor onto. This is superior to the old WS design, which (again working from memory) just had 6 independent flat-ended tubes attaching by single bolts to a central plate. As there is only a single bolt, the old bars could rotate about the axis of the bolt holes. Although minimal, it could have been possible for the old center braces to shift and cause all the other bars to move "en masse."

SFC group buy

irish44j once we hear from Mike that all is well, we will add the 5th Gens. to current group buy. Sorry, just in case we have fitment issues we don't want a bunch of pissed off 5th Gen guys. If it works like we anticipate, (we prototyped on a pristine car) we will post on several threads that we are ready to go. Sean is putting the last few tabs on the first 10 tonight and then they just need to be sprayed with primer and wrapped.
Once the money rolls into our paypal account we will ship quickly, but not before a few photos. We are going a bit slow because we want a few as issues as possible. We don't promise what we can't deliver.
Thanks to all who have read these threads and to the guys with names on the list.

Pretty sure nothing has to change in the interior. Just sanding of the undercoating where the welds will go. Which reminds me, what's the best way to do that? Belt sander or sandpaper or what?

Also, I think we should try to keep this as the group deal thread only and post questions in one of the other threads.

No, I know, I was just thinking it would be nice to have because I want to get them but want to see more reviews on them before making my decision. Does anyone know if these will get rid of coilover noises because I got an extremely annoying one coming from one of the back coilovers (ksport).

Ah, why didn't I think of that—I even have a drill and wire wheels. Thanks Josh. BTW, good to see the 5th gen handling king is finally going to get SFCs.

One_mil, your Ksports make noises because they're cheap coilovers. If you have identified the sound as coming from one of your coilovers, SFCs are not going to fix it. However, they will still stiffen your chassis a lot so you should get on the deal.

Is there any way for us poor Canadian folks to get in on this? From what I've read, FEDEX shipping across the border is a rip since they charge an arm & leg to process the customs papers. USPS seems to be the courier of choice as they link up with Canada Post & the charges are minimal...

I bought traction bars from JClaw in Montreal and it came pretty cheaply (although slowly) from Canadian Post....are the US->Canada charges really more expensive?

USPS probably won't work, Parcel Post service packages can weigh up to 70 lbs. and measure up to 130 inches in combined length and distance around the thickest part. These SFCs probably will be too big a package.
