Well, I've located the ECU, but will let it sit til Tuesday before I explore further. If anything, I think we may have messed up the MAF Sensor, as we disconnected it from the MAF. I did let the car sit with battery disc'd for 24 hours, but still had a problem.

I did tenatively (and very lightly) probe the hole in the ECU, but it's awkward to get at with the accelerator pedal in the way. I'll try to find a very small Phillips head and try to reset Tuesday.

Well, I decided to check it today. I used a small flathead screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit and turned the screw fully clockwise for 2 seconds, then fullu counter clockwise. The lamp blinked, 1 long and 2 short (I think that's what it was) but I used the ECU decoder and it is my MAF Sensor.

Thought I could drive the car to the shop, since it revs to 2500, but no go, will probably get a tow tomorrow.

How much is a MAF Sensor anyway?

Problem - Check Engine Light comes on, engine dies above 2500 RPM

OK, we broke the solder connection in the MAF when we removed the MAF Plug; "had" to do this as MAF wouldn't separate from whatever it is that the new pipe was replacing. So we screwed up to the tune of $492 for MAF and labor. Courtesy had MAF for $365+shipping, lists for $542, my mechanic found a new one here in NJ for $395 and the rest of the $$$ was for labor and tax.

I (hopefully) only screw up like this once every 20+ years or so. Last time some famous racer was selling carb jet upgrades+timing pieces for my 1976 V6 Mercury Capri "S" (neat, John Player colors, black with gold stripes and wheels). I botched that one and the car idled at 1500+ for the next 5 years til I sold it. Funny thing is when I was back in Boston last year visiting the "gang", my friend said that of all the cars I've had (25+), that was his favorite.

My favorite is the SuperBlack 99 Maxima MTX. But it reminds me of the "S", just that it is so much more.

I did use a flathead and pried it gently, thing is it is probably not supposed to be removed (?), I think it's soldered to a piece inside the MAF. I will never even touch the thing again.

So how much is the upper pipe and k an n filter? I hate monsterflow, place racing had a good thing going and now it seems they went down in value, went to cheaper filters and the rubber sleeves arent as sturdy and nice as they were before...but I still want in on it. Thanks,

Mike

sorry man... i think the gd is over... you can still buy one off place racing's web site so just check it out there... i don't know if they have any deals w/ filters but if it just like this gd, the only ones they sell is the JWT and monsterflow filters... i actually used the one off my car, a JTW knock off, and it worked well... so if you already have the K&N, it MIGHT work... stress on the might... since it was thought that you had to use either JWT or monsterflow...

sorry you missed out on this deal but don't hesitate in buyin this... i am very pleased w/ mine!

much respect,
mike

BTW i don't know how the rubber sleeves were b/f but they are really sturdy and quite nice from mine... so you'll just have to check it out to see

yeah i hear ya bud... i didn't wanna get monsterflow b/c... well... you know... so i just took the chance that mine worked since i couldn't afford the JWT one at the time... and it did...

if you get it, i'm pretty sure you won't be dissapointed in the rubber sleeves that it comes w/... i know i'm not... they are as good as any other quality ones i've seen b/f...

so if you buy this... they come w/ it and if you don't like them... you can get new ones... but it never hurts to try what comes w/ the product...

hope you have fun w/ this intake!

much respect,
mike
