The dealership also informed me I have a recall on my alternator aswell! My question is, how dangerous is it as it is? Like would it be a bad idea if I waited and get some worth out of the current alternator and replace it free when it fails? Or will they not cover it once it dies? What do you guys think or is it risky? How long do alternators typically last?

get it done asap. when it fails you might be stuck in the middle of the highway. the problem with the alternator is that one of the diodes in there are faulty and will simply melt itself down or catch fire. mine was melted into the plastic housing inside. better yet just get it done its FREE

Oh, mine lasted for about 5 years before it went. The faulty recalled alternators can go out at any time now sooner or later unexpectedly

Is there a way to tell if your 98 is covered by the recall through the VIN#?
