Power mirrors question. Heated and non heaated.

OK, I have a 96 I30 with Non heated power mirrors right now. When I too my door panel off I noticed that the power mirror has two electric plugs coming off it. Once is pluged into something and the other is just hanging in the door.

QUESTION: Is it possible that the other cord is for the heated mirrors? If so, can I just switch my non heated mirrors with power heated ones and then plug and play? Hmmmm.

Please let me know. Thanks

I know there is a 5th gen how-to on this, but you should check the 4th gen forum.

i have heated mirrors on my max. and they are put on when you put your rear defroster on. (no separate button for mirrors) a lot of people that have them don't even realize they have it. i'm assuming your car would be the same so it could possibly be plug and play and activated when defroster goes on.

I think it is the same with the heated seats too. Not too long ago I removed my front seats (I dont remember why, but I think I was cleaning the carpet) and there is an unused connector under the seat.

When I was checking the fuses (I shorted out my parking lights ) there was even a fuse for heated seats in my car!

I wonder how hard it would be to install the heater pads? That would be cool if the switch was already wired too. With all of this other stuff, I bet the wiring is just under the center console.

Okay, Ill stop whoring up your thread now.

I'm about to get started on a heated mirror project myself for my Maxima (I30 equivilent). Unfortunately, Nissan NZ did not think NZ got cold enough to warrant heated mirrors as an option even in the highest spec Maxima (they obviously haven't left Auckland ), so OEM parts are not an option unless I can manage to find a wrecking yard that has them from the Cefiro, which themselves are pretty rare. One have them priced as $195 ea, far too much for a conveniance item really heh.

So, from the suggestion of a one of the places I called, I'm going to purchase a demister kit from a car parts store (Repco for those who have heard of it). Much cheaper too, only NZ$50 for the kit to do two mirrors. Basically, it consists of the same sort of wire that's on the back window. I'm going to stick it onto the back of the mirror glass and then wire it up to the defrost button that is used to defrost the rear window If anyone is interested, I could take photos once I get started on it incase others want to do the same?

Please take photos of this project and include prices and details of the job please. This sounds very cool. i hope this works for you!

As for my original question, I am hoping this is plug and play. I guess the main thing I was thinking about was if I had to put a button or something to turn them on, but if they turn on when you turn on your rear defogger, that would be sweet!!!!

If anyone does this mod or has done it, please take pictures of your work and the steps if you can so I can see how it's done. Hopefully, you just take your original mirror off, put the new heated mirror on, and then plug in the two plugs! YOUR DONE!! hopefuly....

Thanks again everyone! Have a great day!

NewLoveI30, have a look at this site for heated seats that I just stumbled on accidently, http://www.rostra.com/ac-seatheaters.asp. They promise to be easy to install with no cutting required
