Golden opportunity

I finally went battery shopping last week and bought my starter battery of choice: the Exide Orbital. I like the Orbital for two reasons: (1) it is not an Optima -- which everyone and his mother seems to own, and (2) it received a higher rating than Optima by Automotive Weekly.

It is also a totally-sealed AGM like the Optima, has similar specs, and usually costs somewhat less. Yet, the best part is that we have an Exide factory here in Jacksonville and they often have a few Orbitals that are factory seconds -- batteries that have some minor cosmetic blemishes and have no labels on them, but are the same as the retail version in terms of performance.

However, they look about as generic as they come. But, for $38 (which includes tax and a core charge) who needs fancy decals???

To dress it up while improving the quality of my electrical connections at the same time, I took the opportunity of putting on a pair of Audiopipe gold terminals (hence the title of my post).

I love how my car starts now. It feels and sounds like it turns over instantaneously.

hey can you PM me the address for the company? I'm in Savannah GA. Not a bad ride down for a good deal on a battery. Do you have the specs for the battery?

Here are the specs:

Exide Select Orbital MODEL# ORB78DT-84
Sealed VRLA (AGM) 12 Volt Automotive Battery
84 Month Warranty
---------------------------
BCI Group Size -> 78DT
CCA at 0° F -> 770
CA at 32° F -> 950
RC minutes @ 25 Amps -> 95

Length -> 10"
Width -> 7"
Height -> 8"
------------------------------

Here's the phone number and address of the company, Exide Battery. Be sure to call them before you come because they do not always have them in stock.

Phone: 904-738-1224
Address: 600 Suemac Road

Here's an easy way to get there from Savannah:

From I-95 South, exit onto I-295 South and take that to the Commonwealth Boulevard exit, where you will turn left onto Commonwealth and head east. Go east on Commonweath for a short distance until you reach the first stoplight -- which is at Suemac. Make a right turn onto Suemac and go about two blocks until you see the Exide sign on the right side of the street.
