Get a Borla Pro Xs wtih dimensions as close to your stock muffler as possible & then find a good private muffler shop & bring cash !

Bulbs out or unlit switches?

Just bought the 2001 i30 that I've been looking at. 61,000 miles. Love it.

I noticed today that several switches on the dash do not light up. Three of them I'm not sure if they are supposed to or never had bulbs to begin with:

Dash dimmer switch (next to "security" light)
Seat heater switches
Side mirror adjustment switch
Analog clock
Audio/Cruise buttons in the steering wheel

Anyone know if these are supposed to be illuminated at night?

My next trick will be tracking down the OEM Bulb sizes. I've found a lot of LED replacements but I like the soft incandescent glow as opposed to the hard laser beam effect of LED's

i30 Dashboard question

Hi all,

I've done some searches but haven't been able to locate the answer.

I've noticed that some 2001 i30's have a little compartment over the clock.. gonna post someone elses link here:

http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0031_large.jpg

Mine does not have that little compartment - is this where the OEM navigation unit lives?

Only the seat heater and clock should light up. The seat heater switch will need to be replaced whole unless you want to rip it apart. Clock light is #74

This "pocket" compartment was only on 2001's.

Well that's strange.

Mine is just a solid panel. (2001 i30)

i30 Dealer Parts Manual

You know what would be a great resource? A PDF of the dealer's parts book. Anyone know where I can find one? I've searched all around but it's not easy to find like the FSM book.

Thanks for the confirmation but I don't hate the grill, I'd simply prefer one with no emblem.

Please confirm or deny this will fit my 2004 I35:

thanks again

hey, i have an 04 i35.
There seems to be a lot of electrical problems in it, the moon roof does not work.
But my biggest problem is that the rear subwoofer works but sometimes does not and its been bugging me very bad. Is it faulty wiring or what? help appreciated.

CRAZY IDLE AND MISFIRE

I just had the fuel injectors, coil packs, spark plugs, and idle control valve assembly replaced. all brand new and not referbished. I now have an irratic idle ranging up and down between 1500-2000rpm's. the only codes that pop are the misfire in cylinder 5 and the one for the ICVA. Any ideas anyone?

Were the coil packs from eBay or original dealer items?

How many miles are on the car? Maybe check your spark plug in that cylinder for oil seepage? Maybe the valve cover gasket and spark plug cylinder gaskets need to be replaced. ( Gasket set is about $50 at Oreilys and has 2 valve cover gaskets and 6 spark plug gaskets and however many bolts gromets)

car has about 98000 miles on it. When the spark plugs were changed, there was no evidence of oil on or around the spark plug. What would be the best course of action now? And the Coil packs were purchased from the dealer brand new.

All you need is springs for a drop. Ideally, you'd get a set of struts as well, and you really should get new strut bearings for the front as well.

Personally I'd get struts, mounts (inc bearings for the front), and springs.

Oh ok, my friend recommended tien shocks and struts for me, but they are very expensive, just $1000 for struts and shocks. I was looking at some tokico struts and shocks, but i don't know if they are any good and they are the adjustable ones

Hello. I just bought a 2000 Infiniti I30t w/ 136k, and the day after I got it home, I started it in the morning to go to work and a huge cloud of smoke came out! It goes away after like 10 seconds but its a lot of smoke. Then after about 30 min of driving my check engine light came on. I went to Autozone and its an O2 sensor...could that cause the smoking? It smells like fuel, not coolant or oil. I have been scouring the threads here and it looks like valve stem gaskets can cause startup smoke too.

My I30 occasionally emits some smoke on startup, it seems to happen most when it's parked in a way that makes it lean to the driver's side. Not sure if the O2 sensor can cause this, seems unlikely to me though. Also not sure about the valve stem gasket causing it.

Does anyone know the part number for this replacement bulb on a 2000 I30?
The interior, at the sunroof control (map/reading light)

I checked around, most pointed to the courtesy light, but the shape doesn't seem right

Should look like this: (ignore the nice blue color/pattern)

I just put it up and it makes contact about half way up the window. Those small plastic wheels touch the glass, but it didn't seem to affect anything.

Noob needs some slack

Hello guys and gals. My wife just got in a wreck (hit on left front) with her 2002 I35. It's been totalled by the insurance company and I've got the chance to buy it back. I am trying to decide if the cost of buying it back and parting it out would be worth it. They want $1,800. I need to give them an answer by Friday (9-3-10)
It has a silver exterior and black leather interior. Auto transmission shifted great and engine ran fine (150k mileage). The interior is PERFECT (besides the airbags deployed) and has every option available (heated seats/steering, nav, sun shade, xenon lights, etc).
Now I know this looks something like an advertisement, but I figured you'd need the info about the car to give me an opinion about it being worth the time and money to part it out. Since I lack the minimum 15 posts I wasn't sure how to proceed. I appologize if I've gone about this wrong, but I'm feeling under the gun since Friday is their deadline and today is Wednesday.

Not a scammer or a spammer,

Matt

thats a tough question. You'd have to look around and see what parts are desireable and what they are selling for. For ex: A former member just sold his nav on here and he was asking 320 shipped. Your seats are more comfortable than an I30 and 5th gen Maxima (I know, b/c i have i35 seats in my I30), and I paid 300 IIRC for front and back, and sold my torn I30 seats for 150.

It's hard to say b/c I35 items on ebay don't sell all that well, but may do better here on the forum. I guess what I am saying is it make take a while make the $1800 back, but if you're patient and have a place to keep it while you part it, it may make sense.

Other rmembers may have different thoughts.

I am in the market for the new head unit because of the new Metra kit 99-7609G , will this kit fit all video headunit? I am thinking about geting a Pioneer AVH-P3200BT and back up camera. However, I don't know if this head unit fits the kit and what kind of harness I should get?

Hi everyone, I'm new here and I have a 1996 infiniti i30. My question is how do i remove the factory door sills? I wanna take them to my job and repaint them due to some scratches. I looked real quick and didnt see and screws or bolts. Are the clips behind that I need to just pry on?

I am about to purchase a 2001 I30t with 60k miles on it. A great find, and a perfect price for me. I'm trading in my 2001 I30 with 120k miles on it.

Anyway, the I30t I'm looking at has way more wood paneling than my current I30 or any other I30 or I30t that I can find pictures of with Google. There is wood paneling around the radio and CC buttons on the steering wheel, on the tray cup holder on the passenger side, little slivers of it around the door handles, on top of the center console's cup holder door, and on and on. I'm getting the impression that it might have been an aftermarket job but I wanted to check with some experts.

(notice how it almost covers up VOL, and ON OFF, and SEEK/SCAN)

I wonder what the best way to remove it would be....

Thanks for the reply ronan. Oh wow, look at that. There's all kinds of colors and styles.

Does anyone know if it is easy to remove? Not all of it, just some of it.

Mine rubs against the window sometimes as well though I don't believe that it's normal because it doesn't always do it and mine only does it for the last two or three inches of movement.

In my last I30, and in my Dad's I35, the rear windows were tinted and had sunshades. Neither of us ever noticed any kind of scratching or wear on the tint from those little sunshade wheels.

Hi all!

I'd like to mod an RCA connection into my 2001 I30. I've been reading up on countless maxima.org forum posts and google searches. My car has the stock head unit, and the CD changer in the trunk.

What I'd like to know is can an RCA plug be spliced into the audio input cables from the CD Changer so I could burn a CD of no sound and play it on repeat while the audio is actually coming in through the RCA connection. But, if I wanted to use the CD Changer, I could switch to another one of the 6 CDs and disconnect whatever device I had plugged in to the RCA connection.

1) Is that something that would work?
2) If so, would I be able to use a couple of T-Taps to tap into those audio cables from the CD Changer?
3) Given that the audio portion of the cables coming from the CD Changer have a Left +, Left -, Right +, Right -, (or so I'm told) which of those cables would be the ones to tap into? Positive, or negative, or both?

This sounds like it would work, but I don't know enough about car stereos to want to bite the bullet and just try.

I've got a cassette adapter but the sound is so so at best, and the tape keeps shifting in the deck so the volume keeps shifting as the car turns. I'm also not too interested in an FM adapter.

Any suggestions or information will be much appreciated!

I have an 04 I35 with 130k on it. The right fron side of the car is making a strange noise when going over bumps. The rear seems to be starting the same thing. I took it in and by process of elimination, the mechanic said it had to be the struts. Put new struts on, same problem. I have searched for answers everywhere and I am thinking either the sway bar is bad or motor mounts? Wanted some feedback if anyone else has had a similar problem. The sound is almost like a "bottoming out" and the ride seems rough. Just want to get it fixed as I want to get my car back riding smooth.

Thank you
