I'm sure it wasnt made to overlap the climate control. most likely it's always a beauty ring problem...IMO.
The Metra bezel doesn't overlap the climate control - that's the kenwood 7 inch display case - I had made the assumption that it was a DDIN size - it isn't. it's taller than that by quite a bit. The way everything fits together it can't really be mounted behind, as that would hide controls on my screen.

If you have a true single or double DIN you will be in great shape, no mods required.

There ya go! Hopefully, that gives you guys a better idea of the color comparison. Its pretty dead on in my opinion. I havent installed it yet. But, if you guys need more pics of the kit, i can do that. I'll post some pics once installed also. Also, I understand your problem now dealing with a monitor and not a headunit. I guess you cant exactly lose the surround since its the cradle for your screen. HMMMM! Not sure how to tackle that one! I guess plastic engineering!?! lol!

Sounds like a great price-- I have no idea what mine will cost as I haven't got my amp back to go in and visit the dealer-- but I did note that Installer.com is selling it now for significantly less than their original price (which I think was over $50).

^the difference is, you have a kit in your hands and I don't....and who knows when I'll get it. The guy said by Wednesday, I have little or no belief on that lol.

I think it was worth $69 regardless....we i30/35 owners have been waiting for this for like what 7 years now??

I paid for it like a month and a half ago and got it a week ago. So, I waited for it to get it in my hand. Also, I bought a Alpine 9886 to install, it had everything I needed. I should have pics up by next week.

My amp showed up yesterday-- after about 3 months of waiting all the parts I need are ready. Install scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) at 9am... I'll post pics of the install when it's done!

I haven't taken pics yet, but had the install done on Friday / Saturday.

Note that I didn't see the kit prior to the install. The installers said they weren't terribly impressed with the kit, said that first the color was way off (my interior must be a much darker color than Joeker82's-- my i35 has black exterior and a close to black interior)-- too light and almost like it was a gold color. They painted it the closest color they could get to the rest of the black/charcoal trim. IMO it looks fine how they've got it.

They also said the fit wasn't that great, that they had to do a bit of "molding" (for lack of a better word) to get it to fit right. Their other gripe was that the top of the kit didn't sit flush with the piece of the dash above it, doesn't bother me really. The alternative was for them to use the stock stereo to make a custom install kit which they'd charge a couple hundred bucks to do, so basically I saved $150 by going the metra route.

In any case, I'm pleased with the end result. (though I need to take my car back in-- post-install the rear passenger side window won't open, like it has no power.)

Here is pics of the 9886 Alpine install I did today with the metra kit. I also hooked up the Alpine 300BT for bluetooth control. The stereo is great! The fitment is alright, I have had better fitment. But, overall its good. Considering what the alternative is (200 bucks for the Cefiro dash center) its just fine.

Hey all. I'm new to the site here but have to let you all know that I've been watching this thread for months! I got my kit late last week from an online retailer quite cheap. I was somewhat mislead though as it said "new" but then I get it and it was a "display version" that was resealed. But hey, who cares...I've waited since February for this damn thing. $27 shipped. Lucky me! I was somewhat disappointed though to see that I'm gonna have to cut the plastic off (bar in the middle) since I'm going with a Double DIN deck. I got the Pioneer FH-P8000BT months ago and have been patiently waiting ever since. To save you the hassle of PM'ing me or asking, I got mine from this site here. I'm anxious for this install on Tuesday but in the meantime, I have to do some cutting. I've got my Dremel prepped for the cut but I basically have to cut that piece between the single DIN and the (dead space) holder thing. That should only take a few minutes but other than that, they have everything in the kit for both a single and double DIN install which is cool. I'll try to keep ya all posted like the others have before me. Oh and one last thing, my interior is tan leather and the dash kit is gray so I might hit up a local auto store and find some SEM (?) paint and have them color match it for my interior.

Times running out so I gotta run.

So I got this a while back but never had the chance to post the pics:

Car: 2003 i35 with Willow interior (beige)

Kit:

Closeup of trim match:

As you can see, it matches really well, I wouldn't say 100% but very close to it.

Hope this helps prospective buyers.

You did, my post was to show how it looks on a willow interior i35, as you have an i30 based on your hazard button location.

In case you didn't know, the trim for the beige interior differs very slightly between the 30 and the 35, at least from what I can tell. My post was to help the 35 owners with beige interior (which is why I posted which car)

it looks and fits like ****, I really hate it.

I'm gonna have an audio shop, repaint, and see what they can do to make it fit better. My car looked 100X better stock. We don't drive Hondas, it looks really outta place. Metra made a terrible dash kit.

I dunno, I still prefer my Sycefiro Wood Grain one... that thing looks like a good way to make your luxury car look like a cheap honda.

Ummm...don't forget that we still drive nicely appointed Maximas.

The more I think about this kit, the more at ease I am knowing that if someone tries to steal the stereo and destroys the kit...I'm out $20 (believe me they won't get away with the stereo). If they destroy the Cefiro dash, I'm out ten times that.

For that kind of money, my wife (the car's daily driver) can live with the 1/32" gap as far as I'm concerned.

I'm 100% with you.

yea..the cefiro dash was great in 05-07, when this car was worth something ($16-$20k range). Now, in 2010 a $200 piece of plastic is a lot for a car thats a fake maxima, worth $6k..lol.

Right Sam! I was like 200 bucks for a dsh kit seems alittle stiff. I was considering just finding a ipod hookup for the stock stereo and then the metra kit came out. I really cant see spending more on the dash kit then the stereo itself. Seems alittle ludacris....For my wife, it doesnt get better than the metra kit. LOL!!

the G came out in 03 which hurt the sales of the i35. plus the 6th gen max came out in 04. so the 02-04 i35s i guess werent really popular. however i love mine, just a classy 5th gen maxima.

i got the hu from crutchfield....i didnt get the 3200bt, i got the 3200 (same radio, just no bluetooth) for 399.99 shipped. it came with the wiring harness for the bose and the antenna adapter. i think you can also buy a part that will make your steering wheel controls work the new hu, but i dont have it.
