I am trying to decide if I will replace the transmission in my I35 myself. After some searching I found that if you know how to pull the c/v axles you can handle the hardest part of the job. Is this true? Is it really all down hill after simply removing the c/v axles?

Moving that sumbish up and down would be the hardest part. It's like 150ish lbs.

Overall it's not that hard of a job, pretty straight forward. Time consuming, but straight forward.

 

I had planned on using a jack for moving the transmission up and down. Final alignment might be difficult because of the weight, but I have pry bars for that.

 

How many miles does your car have? I also have an 02 I35 and am scared of tranny issues ever since my Accord's one shat the bed a couple of years back.

How do you know for sure your tranny's bad?

 

I estimate that my car has over 200k on the odometer. When I changed the fluid for the first time about a year ago it looked like it had never been changed. It ran better with regular fluid changes, but now it slips when it gets hot and shifts hard. I found a good amount of metal in the pan on the last fluid change.
