Maxus 2005!?!?!?!
before you make those type of comments you should realize that I actually had MAXUS 2004 planned earlier this year. I had a race track and Casino lined up, however I had emailed the powers that be on the org to get permission to give it the name MAXUS to not infringe upon any org "laws". This way with permission I could also get large sponsors. However they responded that they would get back to me soon and never did. So, I lost both places. As a matter of fact, I'm in the process of talks with pepsii for the Big DC meet to see if they can give us some sponsorship for our meet. So I do, and have done alot. Sorry, but in reading the posts above, all I noticed was a day of hanging around. However I like the ideas that the guy in the sentra club had.
However, I can be of assistance if needed
However, I can be of assistance if needed
several things....
1. Maxus isn't a registered name by any means. anyone can have a meet and call it Maxus.. worst you'll do is tick off the OGs that have been to the original Maxus '99 and 2000, but if you plan a decent event they won't complain.
2. that "stand around in a parking lot" will include Multiple vendors, drawings, catered food, a judged car show, and possible local radio station involvement.
For the rest of the weekend, there are plans to do something but we need to get with the track people and find an affordable venue and how many people are looking to attend. If we need to rent out TWS for a day because we have 100 people involved, we can and will.. but I highly doubt there will be 100 people willing to run their cars on a ~2 mile roadcourse. Same thing for a dragstrip or Auto X..
We're also planning activities for Friday before, but that part really won't be ironed out until we get closer to the event.
last.. If you sit around and wait for permissions on something around here, it will NEVER get done. you just have to grab the bull by the horns and start doing it- which is what David and I are doing. You can participate or you can sit at home or you can help out, but please don't sit there and complain when you don't even know what's going on.

Yeah guys. Look. If you are interested, and have positive feedback that can be used to improve Maxus 05, then post away. If you are going to be the traditional Maxima.org pessimist, then just read, but keep you comments to yourself, cause some of us out here still believe that the Maxima is a great car, and we want to get together and meet others who have the same opinion.
Matt. Are you gonna go and meet with the DNE guys this month. I'm going up there this next weekend, and I'm gonna check out the different stealerships. We also need to get with Nissan North America on this. Or would the dealership do that once we decide. I need to get in contact with you again. I'll call you tomorrow.

I'm going to be doing a track event at TWS this weekend so I'll be gone, but I'm going to try and make the DNE meet at Trophy on the 24th. not sure if the wife will let me out of the house four weekends in a row for racing and car meets tho!
I've got some phone numbers for Nissan NA. once we get some more stuff ironed out and set in stone, I'm going to give them a call. we need to get some other stuff done first before we do that though.

Well, if you want a nationwide meet, SOMEONE has to drive. You can't please everybody.
as anyone can see, there's a huge compliment of members from the west coast and the east coast. There are also a lot of others in the middle (Kansas City, Chicago, St. Louis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, Denver, Albuquerque, etc).
If you're not willing to drive, fine. But don't spoil it for the ones that are. with 210k miles, my car is reliable enough that I'll hop in it and drive 1500+ miles in a weekend. If I have a problem with the car, I make sure it's roadworthy before I leave, and I bring enough tools to fix 99% of the things that can happen on the road. (a small tool bag, a jack, and box of misc fluids will do everything aside from an engine swap.)
There are a million reasons to say you won't or can't go, but they're all simply excuses. If you don't want to go, then don't go. If you want to go, then you'll find a way to be there. I know I'm going, come Hell or High Water (and in Houston, both are a common occurence yet I still make the meets)

...and let me back up Matt's point about this by inserting this thread:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=319550
If you read this thread, there are people from OH, IN, MI, WI, IA, and IL interested in making this trip.
I, for one, am interested because :
a) I have never been to Houston and would love to check it out
b) I have seen all of the previous Maxus threads and would really like to check it out and meet many of the folks I chat with on this board.
Maybe we can join with the East Coat Folks on I-90.
Matt is the Poop!!!! I agree with everything he's saying.
I'll be there regardless if I have my Maxima and a 5.0 notchback or if I trade in the Maxima for a G35. I'll be there.
And I don't know about you guys, but I'm breaking away from the crowd to go run at HRP while I'm down there. That track is fast as hell. My old 94 Z28 was .4 and 3mph quicker at HRP and IN HOTTER WEATHER compared to my track in KC! Coastal tracks kick butt. Period.

we're working on it still, don't worry. been spending my time under Maximas lately instead of shining them up for a meet, but we'll have a lot planned when the time comes. I'm going to kick david's butt out of his la-z-boy and get him to work down here.
I'm loving what I hear, keep up the good work. There are at least 3 3rd gens from Boston looking to come down, not sure about the other gens yet. A lot of people don't read the General Forum too often. VQ's idea of the Caravan chain seems cool, especially since we'll be doing a long haul. Keep us updated!
This is ridiculous!
I can't believe there hasn't been a Maxus since 2001!

What has gone wrong in the past and why we will suceed. ::::: Usually what makes these things fail is that there is often a poll that goes out asking what day people would like to have the meet. THis often goes on for a long period of time, and by the time it is decided on, it is too late for many people to save up vacation time, and get the days off.
Here's what we're doing. June 10th, 11th, and 12th, 2005 in the Dallas Fort Worth area. This will be hosted by Dallas Nissan Enthusiasts, and Houston Nissan Enthusiasts. Some of you may already know, and some of you may not even care. I am the president of HNE, and we have over 100 members. I have been in contact already with Darrick Phillips, Darrick here on the org, who is the president of Dallas Nissan Enthusiasts who have close to 150 members, and he is currently scouting possible dealerships in the DFW area that might be able to support a 100-300 car showing.
Yes, I know the dates above are 3 days, but it is not necessary to be there all three days. I had in mind a dinner gathering on Friday night for those of you who wish to drive in and stay for the entire weekend. Saturday would be the actual show, and I will see if I can find out about reserving some track time at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis for some structured 1/4 mile runs on a Pro strip.
This date and location gives everyone plenty of time to save up vacation time if you don't already have it as well as beating your co-workers to the time sheet to get that weekend off. You have a whole year here people, so I would love to see a good turnout. I will be attempting to get with a hotel chain in the area see if we can get a block of rooms at a discounted rate as well. First I will need to find out which dealership Darrick thinks will be the best.
Please post any feedback or suggestions in this thread, and if the mods want to make it a sticky, then so be it.

It is about 12 hours from Atlanta to Dallas...
This sounds exciting. I am about 45 minutes from there and getting time at the Speedway would rock. It would be cool to see so many Maximas and I-30's on the freeway. We could get together outside the city limits then caravan out to the dealership we are getting hosted by... The biggest one is Trophy Nissan. Other dealerships are either Autonation owned or too small for the amount of cars that would come. I am pumped. Also, there aren't many hotel/motels by the Speedway, so try to get booked early.

Me, and several of my friends will all be caravanning from Baton Rouge, LA. I need to get some more information on exactly where the events are going to be each day. I also need to know if anyone ever got in touch with a hotel that will be offering a group discount or anything. I wanted to go ahead and reserve my room well in advance etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Admittedly, we haven't done much the last few months on planning. I've been too busy working on cars and David has a baby at home and working 60+ hours a week.
I'm goign to get back on it in the next few weeks though and get things going.

Yes Deezo. Matt and I have talked a little bit more. He and I both agree that given the experience with one maxus already and a hotel right next door, Courtesy will be the likely host despite limited parking. One thing is for sure, there will be possibly several hundred cars if everyone who says they're coming is actually coming. Courtesy also has a large sales base with the org, and they can make some serious money on parts this day as well. I know not everyone likes all their parts, but they can push short throw shifters and MEVIs if they're smart and stock up prior to this event whereas Trophy or some other dealerships don't even carry these products. Brian Catts has given us the thumbs up publicly that he supports the event, but the ammount of participation from him as of this point in time is still unknown due to his hectic schedule. Matt has been in contact with the other big names like JWT and Stillen, and they too have expressed interest.
Before Courtesy gives the go ahead nod, they would like to see some form of advertisement or flyer for the event. If there is anyone with good photoshop skills that wouldn;t mind volunteering for a small project, please shoot me a PM so that we can work an idea out as to what we can do.
Other than that, we are still a go. I've got a bit more time on my hands and I'll be working on this much more proactively now that it is just a few months away.
