Start the car... RPM=15000 ... why is that?
The idle is high when the car first starts because it is trying to warm the engine up. Let the car warm up and check it. It should be at 700 with the a/c OFF. If it is not where it needs to be there is an idle adjustment screw under the hood.
Yeah sexima, it's just the car trying to warm up to operating temp. As you know it's a little cooler around here so your car is starting at a cooler temp when compared to a few days ago (the car was closer to its operating temp when it was hot outside). I mention that in case this just happened and has you concerned. Last week mine was starting at around 1200 and then dropping to 700 or so. The last two days it has started and revved at around 1500 and then drops to about 1200 for a few secs and then finally down to 700. All is normal.

This may be related to my remote starter problem.
When the engine is cold it revs up automatically, like you said, and when it is warm it stays low.
My problem:
I have an Audiovox. Whenever the car is cold and I start the car with the remote, it cranks and cranks for about 5 seconds then gives up.. waits 5 seconds, tries again, and works just fine.
I took my car back to circuit city a few times and they said that the remote starter would stop trying to crank the car once it hits a certain RPM.. Hence the cold start problems would have to do with the RPM that needs to be detected.. which is too high.
THe last time i took my car over to CC they adjusted via the alarm the RPM# to shut off at. They told me if it still dosent work, then the car may need a tune up. Would that sound accurate to you guys? any advice?
i'm a 97gxe auto with 99k miles.

henock, your car will only rev that high when it is running. When the car is cranking the starter can only rotate the engine around 300-400 rpms. The car then kicks over and revs up higher. The reason your car wont start right away when cold probably isn't due to the remote start. You would probably experience the same problem if you started it w/ your key. In that case, a tune up may help.

If i start the car cold with my key it works just fine, barely any cranking involed. So... What does a tuneup entail?

As for the tune up question; depending on your mileage, a tune up usually includes inspecting and maybe replacing plugs, air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve, oil/filter, etc. I'd get a Haynes or Chilton manual if I were you. Good luck and keep the questions comming if you have more.
