Loose Wobble Wobbling Camshaft

Today, I added in some UV dye to figure out a leak. I figured it out...but a friend of mine notice one disturbing thing.

When I removed the engine oil cap to put in UV dye, he noticed the camshaft wasn't running in a perfect line. It basically moves up and down about a 1mm out of line.

I have noticed no noises relating to this. It seems to run fine...but when you look at the intake (or exhaust...don't remember) camshaft running...it moves about 1mm? Have any of you ever noticed this? Is this normal at all?

It doesn't seem normal at all, but it looks bad ...yet...the car seems fine. Basically the camshaft seems to run about 1mm out of line. Can anyone explain this?

Remove the oil cap and see for yourself!

If you had 1mm of movement from your camshaft the noise your valvetrane would make would be very alarming.

I doubt what your seeing is play.

Is that 1 mm TIR on an unmachined surface? If so, no big deal. As long as the journals and the bases of the cam lobes are concentric.
