My baby was vandalized!

Some low life decided to break my window and steal my radar detector. Not just any radar detector, it was my very own Valentine 1. The SOB scratched the door panel my custom leather seats, and the dashboard. It happened right at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg today between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM. If anyone hears of a Valentine radar detector from that area for sale, please let me know. I'm supposed to contact the mall security on Monday to see if they can check the security camera. I could honestly say that I would cripple the one that did this.

hey. if you have your serial # to your v1, post it on the v1 website as stolen. that way, if an attempt is made to sell it, it can be traced and you can nail the person.

How would that stop someone from selling it? The only time it would be noticed is if it was sent in to V1 for repairs or upgrades.

Max7,

Sorry to hear of your break in. However, you should not leave the V1 in the car. I too have a V1 and always always take it with me when I leave the car. I even take the concealed unit. Either you lock it up in the glovebox or take it with you at night before you lock up the car.

Its very attractive to thieves, even the manual states do not leave it in the car.

Although the V1 is a bulky looking unit, I feel it matches the black dash of the Maxima the best. I have a V1 and am very happy with it, it works flawlessly, and has saved me numerous times. That said, I have been pulled over for speeding a few times, none of which radar was involved.

Remember that a radar detector is NOT a cop detector, but they do help.

I don't think it's bulky looking at all. It has a strange shape though.

Man, that sucks....even worse...happened @ Woodfield Mall. I can tell you from experience that their security is worthless. As far as their cameras, yeah, they're a joke. I've been working at that mall for about 2 years now, and I too had my car broken into and my ENTIRE A/V system was stolen....amps, subs, speakers, lcds, PS1. What did I get from Woodfield as far as help...jack $h!t. 5 months later a lady went THE WRONG WAY in the parking lot and went into my drivers side door. Here is the bad part about mine and your situation. It happened on private property...the lady that went the wrong way did about $2000 in damage, yet, because of "private property" her insurance company got away with giving me only $600. Total BS

I ALWAYS take my detector or lock it up. No thieves would notice it if it wasn't there. Especially take the high end models.

Malls are number one sources for scum bags. Do you have Air Horn installed in your car? you ca also get a pager mod for your Aalrm system, if its made By DEI. So you get a page next time someone breaks into the car. It works for the mall distance.

Well, thanks for understanding! I'm feeling better now and I'm shopping e-bay for a Valentine 1. I can't live without that thing. The insurance company is looking at my car this week, but first I have to give Valentine a call so I can get them to send me a copy of my receipt. Hopefully State Farm will cover for the radar detector.

The last thing I would tell my insurance agent is that my car had a radar detector. They may infer that you like to speed and adjust your premium according to your speculated risk.

The only thing they care is your driving record. I don't think the radar detector will make a difference. I have friends at state farm so I'll ask.

Ok, so the insurance company will not cover the radar detector. The serial number of the detector is 9341410633. Probably a lost cause, but maybe someone can find it.

Max7,

Do you have home owners insurance/renters insurance? Most of those polices do extend to your car and covers items that are not "permanently attached" to the vehicle.

Well the insurance paid out $1,225.00 for the demages. That was enough to order my parts and a brand new Valentine One. This time the radar detector goes everywere I go. My estimate was high since the broken glass scratched the passenger side airbag cover and you can't replace the cover. You have to replace the entire airbag. I can live with those scratches so I didn't order that part. It was over $900.

i'm a full believer in the pager alarm, i have one myself. But when u in the middle of a mall trying on some new timberlands, the time of break-in isnt enough for u to react and get out there to bash him. Maybe if he tried to steal your car or radio but radar detectors are an in and out routine.

Sorry that u had to have this happen to such a beautiful car...

When my dad's friend's daughter had her car broken into, they stole a laptop from the trunk and some other stuff and the insurance company covered it. Not sure what insurance she has

Just wondering, have you gotten any tickets for the tint?

I drove by the mall and the g/f wanted to go in! Oh well the car was fixed and looks better than before. I will take some pictures soon. I replaced my leather door inserts, and got the new parts installed. I got the window installed and retinted. I drove her yesterday and felt very proud! Thanks for the comments!
