Help me decide..Is an intake worth it??

I am trying to decide if it is worth getting an intake like the Berk. I know it sounds better, but anyone have hard data on performance gains?

What happens in the summer when its hot under the hood? Wouldn't the performance suffer??

Also, what do you do with the sensors in the stock intake before the filter?
(I don't mean the MAF, there are two before the stock filter, one outside and one inside the stock intake)

Please give your honest opinions & suggestions.

Thanks!

Theres only 2, MAF and air temp.. the air temp you just stuck it inside or whatever...

Been some stuff about the stock intake having better throttle responce, so its kind of up 2 you.. I have a WAI, my throttle responce kind of sucks so its up to you buddy...

I heard the CAI is better for that, im gonna put the rest of my tube later on to see for a difference.

i personally don't think it's worth any $$ to get an intake for a car. What for?? to make your car go a second faster?? i'm not interested!

Hey, if you are talking in terms of 1/4 mile, i'd be all over it if it made your car go "1 second" faster..thats alot of improvement...But we all know its just not gonna happen with an intake..Me, I got it for sound, and could care less about performance..

Better gas mileage. At least with my last car I got an extra 1-2 mpg with an aftermarket air filter. Hard to measure except on long highway trips.

Sound is very nice, and how bout better mpg.
I'm getting 1-2 mpg better.
I also have a WAI, and notice a better throttle response.
We'll see how it performs during the hot summer.

Thanks for all the input. I may do it just to do it.

However, anyone notice serious performance loss form the Berk?

you will not notice a SERIOUS gain. this aint no supercharger

you can dyno before and after...and see the +/- 5 hp gain

plus, just like bijan said, you won't feel any difference in the performance. Typically on any car you wouldn't "feel" 5hp. I think that the intake is something that is for looks, sound, and minor performance.

I paid 200 for my PR CAI last week, it sounds mean and problably adds a few hp. I got it mainly for the sound and the looks, it makes it a little different from most of the other maximas around me.

I have to disagree here. I have had the Berk installed for about 2 months now and noticed an increase right after installation. The Berk on a 2000 may have different #'s than on my '02, but they have been dyno'd for the '02 at +8-12 whp. I have not noticed any loss of power whatsoever. The car rev's more quickly and the difference is really noticed after 3k rpm. One of the things that makes people go with the Berk is the sound that it generates alone, but with the increase in power, you cannot go wrong with this mod. If I had to make the decision to buy this product again, I'd do so in a second. Very happy thusfar.

Thanks. I think I am going to go with the Berk. I'll post some feedback in the future.
